This isn't meant to be an indictment on those who choose to use MMAO as their method of selling, but a collection of experience in 3 plus years of buying and selling stuff on here, eBay, FB marketplace, CL, and other applicable platforms. I've used MMAO in the past, and still believe it has it's place.
I've been noticing an uptick in MMAO posts across the platforms above. Even if I need the part or game, I usually avoid these for a couple reasons:
1. The part or game is commonly sold, and finding pricing data is readily available from multiple sources
2. The platform best suited to sell something you don't know the value is eBay, I'm not going in with a blind offer on any other platform (My trigger is CL listings that turn into highest offer situations)
3. The seller is trying to extract maximum value from the sale (nothing wrong with this), but I'm at a disadvantage negotiating.
4. Sellers use bad data to validate some price in their head (this is listing on eBay for $X, and refuse to acknowledge actual sold pricing)
5. The seller already has a price in mind, so why don't you just list it for the price and see what happens?
When is a good time to use MMAO?
1. When there is no, or little data around the sale of the item (or it's out of date on a comparison)
2. When you are trying to get the maximum value out of a sale, and you don't want to use eBay.
