Why hook and Xbox emulator up to a tv when...

A Xbox is closer to a PC than an arcade game with it's built in HD, and with the 360 you can get the origional Xbox for very cheap prices. There's a ton of frontends and emulators for it, you swap out the HD with a larger one, and then you can copy xbox games from the DVD onto it and play them without needing to swap discs. So you can get a collection of classic emulated games plus all the awesome fighting/driving games the Xbox has had released for it.

Only reason I keep my origional Xbox is for Steel Battalion which I would love to make a dedicated cab for some day.

The Yaton kit comes with a fully wired Jamma harness with quick disconnects / video and power terminals already installed. All you have to do is connect the wires to your buttons and joysticks. It's a pretty cool setup. I'll take some pics. I was disappointed in how it was packed. It came in a freaking popscicle box. I need to ask for a refund on shipping charges or something. As long as it works I'm cool.

The emu I'm using is Coinops. Best one I've seen yet. CPS3 is a seperate emu. I'll have to look it up but it emulates flawlessly as far as I can tell. No lag or fram issues.

Those harnesses are ass... If you have any intermittent switch problems... Check the harness first.

I will check out this Coinops emu.

I use MAME
A random CPSIII emu
FBAXXX
And A different mame for midway boards.

Oh man, I never knew that game existed before I saw a CL ad for the control kit/ game. Dude wanted $75 for it all. Should have bought it, just to build a cab for it. There is a guy on youtube who made a shitty cab that does the job:

If I were to make a custom cab for that game, it would be a similar enclosed cab, but nicely done with thumpers under the seat hitting on each footstep.

I wonder if you could get all of that into a cybersled CP.

No wait... Even better the Crimson Skies machine...

Seems easy enough. Man, I gotta stop myself or I might just build a custom Steel Battalions cab. Must...stop.....
I had seen another one that was made using an XBOX. Wish I could find the link, it's been some time. There's a few of those controls on ebay. One is about to end and is currently at $91. Beats the cheapest one on Amazon that's selling for $199!

SB was a great game. It only had one other game that came out for it(stand alone-expansion)game. However, the expansion was online only and Microsoft is ending their XBOX Live service for the original XBOX 1 coming here in April. But at least you could still play the single player game. What would be cooler yet is if you could battle via link. But I'm not sure if the original game was linkable or not....

As a side note, I would love to do a Sitdown Xbox system. Grab Outrun2, Midway arcade Classics vol. 3(with SF RUSH 2049, the Rock etc...), Forza and all the Need for speed's. That would be awesome. It's just finding an empty sitdown cab with working monitors is the issue for me. :(

Also modding your XBOX is the only way to go. Add a bigger HD in it. I've used them(Xbox 1) as a Media center with XBMC (for the living room and bedrooms) for a couple years now. It streams movies from my shared computer/server, Or you can just rip it directly to the Xbox. In fact, I ripped all the kids DVD's onto one of my modded Xbox's so I don't have to worry about scratched discs anymore. It's great! However it doesn't play HD/Blu movies very well(obviously). But given that this(Xbox1) is basically a 700mhz PIII Celeron with 128 megs of ram with a Nvidia Geforce 3 Video card. It's pretty amazing at what it's been able to do so far.

What the heck do you need one with working monitors for? The simplest and most cost effective way to run it is to purchase a cab with two seats and no monitors or guts. As long as the footprint of the cab is sound, it can be a total mess, just sand, paint, and shove a couple de-cased 25" tv sets in there and run the RCA cable hookups to them.

I've got a driving rig set up with an XBOX in it. I modded it (Cheapmod) and installed a 120Gb HDD and it currently has 30 games on it. It's running a 26" TV just using the RCA inputs.

I also have a light gun and have all 3 (yes that's right THREE) light gun games ever produced for the XBOX . Lucky one is driving AND shooting (Starsky and Hutch).

The XBOX is in the Marquee section which hinges up (too lazy to put artwork on - too busy playing it).

Old photo, which doesn't show the bezel or marquee, but gets the idea across... I also fabricated the handbrake for Colin McRae and Rallisport Challenge ;)

hahaha! I like it! Does everything it needs to. Good touch with the hand brake. What are you using for pedals and steering?

The pedals and steering are the original Taito stuff. I desoldered the pots off of the controller PCB and hacked them straight in :D

Works a treat!

Nice, so you hacked the actual gamepads? Cool.

On my double seater I used the Madcatz MC2s and wired the pots to both steering/ pedal setups.

I love hacking this kinda stuff.

Yeah that one IS nice!

Yeah although mine works well enough, an actual XBOX compatible sterring wheel hack would be better.

By hacking the pots on a gamepad, you get a reasonably large deadband area when the steering wheel is central. I'll be changing over to something nicer soon. Maybe with force feedback aswell...

Go for the madcatz when you get the chance. You'll be able to adjust the deadband, inner and outer limits for steering for each game.

I found both my MC2s on CL for like $20 each.

Or do a Dreamcast and do the Lemans 24hr challenge!

Hell, couldn't you just download the rom on a modded XBOX?

The only reason I constantly try to point towards the XBOX is because of its library of good games, great periphireals, low cost, over abundant supply, and the ability to upgrade the system.

I'll prob end up making another cab with an XBOX emulator in it with 4 player setup put inside a cab like my Playchoice X.
