Why hook an Xbox with an emulator up to a tv when...

You can have a gigantic cabinet that has a marquee with spare room for advertising space. What funny is that his color scheme is not bad, and I kind of like the gun placement, but the CP is HUGE, the marquee is gigantic, and the game system controllers? Just thought I would share, I was so excited my RSS feed had a hit, then it was this :(

Yeah, looks like a Gauntlet Legends cab to me. That thing is super well done IMO. All those emulators, the ability to play good fighting games through the Xbox, and the gun games makes it pretty useful too.

Props to this guy I think he did a great job on it.

It's running many different emulators including MAME... it's done quite well... nice theme... I do believe that is a Gauntlet Legends cab... I don't know where your beef is?

BTW... that asking price isn't outrageous and in Hawaii I wouldn't be surprised if he got it.

That's similar to what I'm doing except I'm only running MAME on mine. You can't really play XBOX games without the analog triggers. Mine is going to be in 2 player Midway cab. I can say that this guy has really gone all out with gun support. You don't see many MAME setups that run MAME, console emulators and gun games.

I like the XBOX route due to the fast bootups. Mine won't load to XBMC as I don't plan on running the console emulators even though they are already loaded. I'll post a vid or pics when I'm done with mine.

The reason I'm going the XBOX route is because you can buy an XBOX and mod it for about $50 the XBOX to Jamma adaper runs about $50 as well, so for $100 you get a plug and play multigame solution that you can load games onto. I plan on running my MAME emulator and the roms off of a DVD rom.

I made a driving cab with a couple modded XBOXs, but now I'm contemplating making another upright cab with a modded XBOX in it as well. 4 players. There's just so much cool stuff with an XBOX.
I think this guy's cab looks fine. Hopefully he didn't destroy the original arts to make this though, that would be a shame. Seems like a bit higher price for a MAME cab, but he'll probably get it over there. Custom art overlays and marquees cost dough.

I have no doubt that he'll get 1500 over here. And actually i think my biggest beef with it is i get about 5 hours of sleep on a long night on the weekend. i am just a grumpy resident. But seriously my rss feeds it 20 to 30 x box mods a day, so i got excited when i saw an arcade cabinet on craigslist. Personally i think console controllers on an arcade cabinet make it look like home system on steroids. Big and bulky really not what i want something to look like. However, I realized that by using happy 360's and console controllers, he was able to pull this off without over crowding the cp. I think the cab is too big, but it is slim pickings here. On a side note, I already referred someone who contacted me looking for a game with guns. More importantly, where is the gauntlet hardware: )

I hadn't seen the XBOX controllers. Mine won't have that and this is one of the reasons my cab won't play anything that requires the analog sticks. The guns are okay but the XBOX controllers cheapen it.

Did I miss that too? Does that cab just have a couple XBOX controllers sitting on the CP or something??? The picture is too tiny to make it out. If so, That's just stupid and now where near as cool as I thought.

Ha ha. Yeah, they're hard to see because of the color. They are sitting on the CP right below the guns.

The thing is, It is hard to get it bright and without interference or feedback...

I have bought a few of the amp kits from ultimarc... If you use the ones that they have, the cable doesn't dispiapte feedback..

I can only get it to work with one cable I have...

There is another infomercial product, but I do not believe that it uses an RGB amp. And you have to hack it up to get the controls to work.

As for the controls, There are commecial products that do not require you to hack any.

But I like to hack them and run them in parallel to the CP. So you can pick up the controller and use it. Or you can use the controls on the CP. You really do need the analog features on the Xbox Controller to navigate the Emus... And change settings.

I recommend hacking the original, oversized xbox controller. It has solder points for all 4 directions, and 6 buttons, and start. So you don't have to ruin it to run a cable to your harness.

Probably the best part of having an xbox isn't the old Emus.. It is the ability to play later Arcade releases that are not emulated.

Games like:
Soul Calibur II/III
Marvel Vs. Capcom II
Castle Shikigami II
The Mortal Kombat game.
King of Fighters games not released on the Neo.
Street Fighter III (poorly emulated on an Xbox)
Tekken Releases

OUTRUN 2 for the win, sir.

I was originally going the hacked controller route and had already wired a CP with the hacked controller but decided to scrap that idea and go a different route. I've made arcade sticks for 360 and other systems and it's pretty easy but I liked the wired Jamma solution best. I bought one of these XBOX to Jamma kits from Yaton. I don't know how good it works yet as I haven't tried it out but will be sure to let everyone know. It comes with a new Jamma harness for you to use.

I don't plan on messing around with any of the console emus or any of other options and to me having xbox controllers is like having a pullout drawe for a mouse and keyboard.

As soon as you flip the switch the system boots to Coinops. You get a splashscreen then go directly to the game select menu. Everything on the XBOX is already configured to work with the digital pads and buttons, no analog support needed.

Have you ran the CPS3 emulator yet? SF3 III is one of the reasons I'm going this route. The emulation is almost perfect as far as I can tell.

Which emulator are you using?

They Yaton board does take some hacking... Look at the pinout. I would probably just cut the traces for buttons 6/7... Rather than buying a new harness and adapting it that way.

What coinop emus are you using? Most of the ones I have use the thumb sticks to change settings. And the analogs make scrolling much easier.

You can always swap it out if you need to tho.

I don't like you comparing my controllers to a pull out drawer... I keep them in there hidden... And only pull them out when changing games or settings. I like to think of them as a test switch.

As for CPS3 emulation. My emu is like 2 years old... So it might have been improved. It's choppy, but not horrible. It isn't capable of "Tournament" play. I think you will be better of picking up SF Collection for Third Strike. Of course it is the only way to play red earth and one of the Joe Joe games.

The Yaton kit comes with a fully wired Jamma harness with quick disconnects / video and power terminals already installed. All you have to do is connect the wires to your buttons and joysticks. It's a pretty cool setup. I'll take some pics. I was disappointed in how it was packed. It came in a freaking popscicle box. I need to ask for a refund on shipping charges or something. As long as it works I'm cool.

The emu I'm using is Coinops. Best one I've seen yet. CPS3 is a seperate emu. I'll have to look it up but it emulates flawlessly as far as I can tell. No lag or fram issues.
