Why does this Galaga cabinet look so funny?

It's worth what you're willing to pay, but if you want an actual Galaga game, I'd save your money and keep looking. Only thing original(possibly) from that pic, is the marquee. I myself would pass, if looking for Galaga. Now if you wanted a good vertical Jamma cabinet to play various PCBs, get the cabinet. It all depends on what is inside the cabinet currently.

I'm new to the hobby, I'm hungry to learn and explore. Maybe I can convert it to something else, or maybe I'll find a neat surprise inside. I offered him 200.

It's probably a bootleg Galaga or a multi board as some else suggested. Depending upon what is inside, it could easy become something else or even restored to the original game. 😄

Here's sent me an inside picture

I'm talking to another guy about a "crime fighters" game too, 4 player. Is that convertible to ninja turtles?

More than likely that 4 player Crime Fighters was most likely a Gauntlet cabinet. I can't say for sure without pics. I'm sure you could put a TMNT pcb in there and it work.

Hahaha, oh wow, can you tell my mind was on something else? I don't even know where I pulled Centipede from. And even typed it multiple times in my reply.

Carry on, absent minded here.......

This crime fighters game looks a lot stranger than I expected

Holy shit, that's a Nintendo Vs. dual cabinet, I'd LOVE to own that. Quite rare. Too far, no room. Somebody will definitely snatch that up if you don't, but I don't recommend it for a newbie by any means because my idea would involve decoverting that ASAP.

Anyways, yeah that's a Galaga in a Stern cabinet. When I was new I'd pay $300 for that but nowadays I wouldn't buy it at all. I bought some awful games when I was new to this because they were cheap (but really overpriced) and you quickly learn you'll run out of room if you want more, and if you sell those you'll have to sell them at a major loss. So with these games that aren't what they originally were, make sure you really love it before you buy it because you'll either need to keep it or sell it at a loss. Probably not at $200 though, but still. At this point it'd have to be free for me to go get it. Normal original Galagas come around a LOT in all sorts of conditions and price ranges, they made a ton of them, and they're one of the super cliche trendy desirable games out there.

Just curious, is this the same one I've seen on recent local (southeast US) CL searches? Looks just like one I keep seeing.

Both cabs have been on CL for months and it's the 2nd time the Nintendo cabs been listed

Considered getting it myself but it seems like a huge project

To be honest, what a lot of people never want to accept is that for now, that crime fighters is better off just leaving it like that. It'd take a ton of time and effort to turn it back into a Vs. game... but down the road it'll be more worthwhile to do it after the value of the cabinet appreciates. Someone will probably have to just leave it a crime fighters and enjoy it for 8 or 9 more years and then they'll have a really cool cab. they can finally restore.

The other way people go a lot is they'll take a cabinet like that, that's been converted... and PART IT. I know people don't have much room so they can't really afford to just leave the things the way they are but it sucks watching so many kitted or weird cabinets like this get parted out and destroyed...

I would get the Crime Fighters just for the Vs. Dual cabinet. As for the Galaga bootleg, I have seen worse. $200 for a decent condition vertical JAMMA cabinet. Not a bad deal if he will go down to that.

I've been searching cl for a cheaper project for a while now but it's been tough. Everything seems to be already fixed and out of my price range. I'm probably going to get it, I've been a huge Nintendo fan since I was a boy and the game looks fun. My 4 kids have started to get excited about coming out in the garage with me and tinkering on stuff and playing my NES so they'll be excited about having something to play with me, even if it's not original or perfect. Lyons Arcade is on the way, we're definitely gonna stop by on the way home and check it out.
