why does my mk2 keep resetting?

Are you running this MK machine off a power strip sharing the load with other devices? I had a MK 1 machine that rebooted constantly when it was sharing an outlet with 3 other machines in a hallway outside a pizza joint. I'd bring it home, plug it in the wall in my basement and burn it in for 24 hours, and it would never reset. Bring it back to the pizzeria, and the problems came back. I eventually sold the machine and replaced it with another one.

Just another idea to throw out there....

I think your problem would've had more to do with the power supply. if there was a little blip in the power, or possibly a weird ground or something, it didn't condition the power as well.

it's absolute hell in our game room in the winter. lots of our redemption games will randomly lock up from all the damn static. I think this week I'll try the fabric softener spray approach for fun.

we already gave mogwai a laundry list of stuff to do. I still maintain the problem will be more to do with the power supply than anything, especially if the +5 is too low/high. the PSU could be flaking out (see what I said about power conditioning) but I gave some little maintenance tips for those too. if you still have a wide band of power across the +5 adjustment, the unit should still be serviceable.

and from my personal experience, I found rom corrosion to be a major cause for the problems I had with MK2.

Cool. Glad it was something easy. I bought an MKII board off ebay that was advertised as non-working. Usually, I can fix them, but this one I couldn't. It kept resetting just as you specify yours was doing. Immediately after the revision is displayed, it resets. I recorded and slowed down the playback to see the error message being displayed. It said "Slam tilt engaged", or something like that. I thought this might have been your issue as well. I couldn't fix mine though. It was not a power supply :(

probably a bad input chip. I never thought of that one. haha

Zenomorp's vid on Bad ROMS saved me two boards now. IMO MKII is the pain in the ass board of the MK's. Haven't had an issue with a Y-Unit MK1, no issue with my T-Unit, UMK3 well, aside from the CMOS error, is fine, and MK4 has been a champ thus far. I have had multiple issues with different MKII boards. And I won't even get into my luck with MKII sound boards.

handle MK3 and MK4 like eggs.

MK2 really is probably the shittiest game Midway made, hardware-wise. can't necessarily explain why, cause I know it's not that rom board. T-unit MK1 can pull some shit too... you just got lucky yours was encased in a cryogenic freeze tube for a few years.

Y-unit boards are like tanks. you know why? they say RAYMOND GAY on them.

(not a gay joke.. Ray Gay = Williams legend)
