Why do you own a Playchoice?

That's the same way I felt when I saw the Playchoice at the arcade back in the day. I couldn't believe they expected you to pay to play timed NES games in an arcade cab that you could already play at home on your TV. I don't think I ever played Playchoice in the arcades. There was no reason to when you could play other actual arcade games with much better graphics and sound and also play them for longer than 5 mins with one quarter.

The main reason I own 2 PC10s now is because I bought one for $80 with no games and nonworking monitor and the other for $100 with 2 games and nonworking monitor. So not too bad a price to add some cool arcade hardware to my collection. But after buying the games I wanted and fixing the monitors, I probably did end up spending about what it costs for fully populated and working cabs anyway. If I didn't get these PC10 cabs for cheap, I don't think I would consider paying the usual prices for a fully working one and probably wouldn't buy one. But I'm glad to have the PC10 in my collection. I may be selling one off this Spring or Summer though. Or if anyone wants to trade a Red Tent for a single monitor PC10 let me know.

Anthony, you've got to show some pictures or video of your collection... what's holding you back? I know you've got some awesome stuff.

Yes, but like so many other collectors I need room in my garage to be able to show them all. Right now I have games in front of other games. I'm considering having a workshop/garage built in my backyard to house all my games so they can all be accessible to play and be seen.
We'll see what I can do this Summer.

I came across mine by accident. it was in a pawn shop i was in, and it was in the back room and i saw the cabinet from behind the long plastic flaps that seperate the showroom from the storage room. i asked the guy about it and he said it was in on a pawn (imagine pawning a arcade :( ) but was going to default the next day. i asked him how much it would be if he didnt pick it up and he said he would let me know it for $200.00 its the most mint machine in my small collection and works the best. both monitors are sharp clean and no burn at all, and the cabinet looks like it was never on a route. only negative is the plexi is scratched from the gun for duck hunt and wild gun man. its my favorite machine and i smile everytime i see it. takes me back to a simpler time where i would spend all day playing NES. Since i got it ive gotten 5 different carts to swap out including a modded mario that plays Donkey Kong. Im still looking for a Castlevania cart if anyone has a cheap to sell. id say buy one for sure if you havent yet and still cant decide. good luck!

Cool story bro, what up with that avatar?

Well Devin you want to know why I have 3 of them...cause they are F___ING RAD!!!! that is all!

I have thought many times about getting a playchoice but there are to many negatives so I have stayed away. I hate that the game tells YOU when your game is over before it should be. Why has no one come up with a way to override the timer,is it impossible due to the way the games were programmed? Another issue is cost. I have seen Pc10's go for upwards of $600 and the games as high as $100. Why drop this kind of cash when you can get an NES for way cheaper and play the same games? What made you as an owner want to own one of these and what do you like most about it? If the opertunity for me to get one of these cheap came along I would jump on it,if the price were reasonable but I doubt that day will ever come.

I played playchoie growing up. Hated the limited selection and timer, why I would never buy one. So to cure that I tossed a thrift store tv on a wg4600 frame in a Nintendo cab, marquee, playchoie control panel and wired up a nes with a Retrozone compact flash cart with reset wired to game select button. No more limit on time, no more limit on games, same damn experience! Nobody has been yet able to tell its not the sanyo monitor!

Cool story, Bro! However, you can never play the PC10 version of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! that saves your best times. I know it's not a big deal but it's something that hasn't been duplicated on the NES yet. And yes, I'm just giving you a hard time! :)

The Playchoice system is great for one thing IMHO...

...to sell and make profit.

I think they are fantastic, especially for those with limited space. You can have 10 games (that are swap-able) in 1 unit and ready to play on the fly. There are a bunch of good games for the system that don't make good arcade games (IE: They take too long to play and have no save system like Metroid, SMB2/ SMB3, Castlevania etc... ) but if you load them up with Arcade style games (Mario Bros, Wild Gunman, Tecmo Bowl) they add some instant variety in the arcade.
