Why do you own a Playchoice?

I've always liked the PC10 countertop and thought it would be neat to have one in my office, but after starting my new job last month I think the culture might be too conservative for that. I feel kinda funny owning a Red Tent even though there are some differences in the games from the NES or PC10, there so similar to the NES games I've thought why not just use an emulator or collect the carts. It is a really cool item to have and people that played the NES remember games like Excitebike or Dr. Mario which are the current games in my Red Tent. I do wish the VS system had more games in its library especially something like Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.

okay I have another question. When the timer starts counting down and is close to 0,do you just hit start again after coining it up a second time and the timer starts over again giving you more time? Can the timer be increased or decreased time wise through the dip switches?

Not sure how although someone on here does but my timer stays on OOOO all the time. It was that way when it was given to me for free! And fully populated,so thats why I have one.

So being that it stays at 0000 you have no timer and the game runs continuously with no interuptions?

Pretty sure that's how free play mode is.

Now see, this will definately sway me more towards getting one as the timer is the #1 turnoff for me on these. I had no idea they had a free play switch. Is it the same as other Nintendo games where there is no attract mode when it's set and the game stays on one screen until you hit start?

If the opertunity for me to get one of these cheap came along I would jump on it,if the price were reasonable but I doubt that day will ever come.

Never say never, i picked up my dual monitor PC10 with gun and 2 games for $250 and it was in your neck of the woods. (right around of Frederick, MD). So they are out there. Actually i think there has been one on craigslist around our area loaded with 10 games for $500 sitting for awhile.

I bought mine cause i am obsessed with NES. And its awesome to play the NEs games wioth the little black joysticks, kinda makes games funner to play. Plus one thing that is cool is when i have get togethers everyone is always rocking mike tysons punchout and other NES favorties with ease. I have mine set on free play so the timer isnt even a factor. And you can actually play NES games without having to blow on them, clean them, have someone bump the system and have it freeze. So its cool in that factor to me.

Yes - the timer can be adjusted in many different ways via the dips. When time runs out, you have a grace period for more coins to continue the game you are playing.

yep game stays on with the select screens up, and you walk up, select a game, press start, and play,....that easy. My 5 year old cousins figure it out and it keeps em busy for hours.

timer says 0000 and that is the free play on this arcade,

if u ever come to berkeley come check out mine, we can cap the top monitor lol (i already did the bottom but never got the time or urge to yank out the top one lol)

the Dual PC10 is pretty massive, well im sure u know having a punchout since its the same cab and monitors.

I think you would definitely enjoy it bro, look at the overwhelming response to this thread, everyone loves theirs. Just do it. ;)

You get 10 games in one cab to play - That makes it a worthy purchase on it's own. Even if you find a dual screen at the high-end like $400-$500 - You're still getting a lot of game for your dollar.

I've played all the way through - Double Dragon, Contra, SMB2, and SMB3 on mine. That's HOURS and HOURS of fun. I almost added Punch-Out!! but I haven't technically beat Mike Tyson on the cab yet. LOL

EDIT: You'll also love the game music coming out of the cab - you know how the nincabs give you that warm sound. I almost get a boner when the Punch Out comes on.

Exactly right. Playing these NES favs in an actual arcade cabinet that was designed by Nintendo to do just that is the only way to play them now. Those that bitch about the timer have never tried freeplay. Timer is a non-factor. In fact, mine's covered up at all times and forgot I even had one.

I was just going to offer you my Punchout in trade for you PC but just read that yours is dual screen too. I'm trying to get away from the dual screen lol

It's moulded plastic. Single screen is good if you want to change the boards to support different games like Space Invaders as you don't see the instructions.
There are some classics for the playchoice which you wish you had played before on an arcade machine. Best purchase to date :)

I used to have a PC-10 *Still kick myself in the ass for selling it*, but why do any of us have arcade games at all when everything can be played on a computer? It's nostalga and a feeling we enjoy playing on these big bastards!
