I have thought many times about getting a playchoice but there are to many negatives so I have stayed away. I hate that the game tells YOU when your game is over before it should be. Why has no one come up with a way to override the timer,is it impossible due to the way the games were programmed? Another issue is cost. I have seen Pc10's go for upwards of $600 and the games as high as $100. Why drop this kind of cash when you can get an NES for way cheaper and play the same games? What made you as an owner want to own one of these and what do you like most about it? If the opertunity for me to get one of these cheap came along I would jump on it,if the price were reasonable but I doubt that day will ever come.

I think for me, its a mild obsession for that nintendo brand. It brings back that old feeling of all the exciting new things nintendo was coming out with in the eighties. I love coming across old nintendo stuff. Especially arcade stuff, however, I'm not one to spend over forty dollars on a single pc10 board myself, not usually anyways.

Time thing is easy, just put it on free play.

You can find PC10's cheaper than $600 - $350-$500 is what I'd look for if I were you - And yes, the games are overpriced.

If you're willing to go the single monitor route - a vs. conversion in a Vs or DK cab, you can find them cheaper usually. $300-$400 range. The 2nd screens are pretty much useless anyways.

Find one loaded with games for a decent deal, play it, get tired of it, then nobody will come pick it up - then you can part it out for more than you paid.

I paid 400 for mine, it was a single monitor dedicated cab, I dont normally pay that much for games, but this one was in pretty decent shape, other than the t-molding,(which I wish we could get some replacement made!) This game def has a special place in my heart, I dont think I will ever want to sell it...

I have a PC10. I was not going to buy it because the games are the exact same as on the NES console. That said... I love my PC10. I play it ALL the time and it is arguably the most popular machine that I have.
The reason for all of the above is that the games are familiar. People love Punch Out, or Mario. They are simple fun games that are enjoyed by everyone. Plus, if you are getting board of one game, you can switch to something else.
I have a Free Play switch that I just keep pressing. So far I have only had one time where the timer has run out and I freaked out because I thought the board fried! LOL! Once I realized what happened, I just coined up and played some more.
I am definitely glad I got one with the games I want on it.
Contra
Super C
Ninja Gaiden
Tecmo Bowl
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario 2
Super Mario 3
TMNT
The Goonies

Definitely think you would enjoy it in your collection.

'cause Im a bad ass...ok, now I'll go back and read through the thread...

OK, now that I'm caught up...
I made a good trade one mine (IMO) and it is a nice clean nintendo cab(I have no others)..single monitor..
+ I have tons of console stuff so this is a nice touch to the collection.
Its always fun to play and chicks always seem to dig it...
Plus the hunt of the games is always a fun factor for me..

Before I got this one I passed on a 2 monitor with gun etc for cheap back in 07 or 08 and have been kicking myself ever since..

The decision to buy mine was based on the fact that it was combo deal, it's Nintendo, and it plays Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.

I think Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is a better game than the dedicated 2-monitor Punch-Out. I have both of them, and the PC gets 2x the play. Now if I had neither, and was put in a room, with a dual-monitor PC10 (with only MT Punch-Out!!) and a dedicated Punch-Out!!, and said pick one for $200 - I would pick the Playchoice.

I got mine cheap and it was in a lot of games, that's why I bought it. Bought certain titles because I enjoyed them as a kid on the NES. Have to agree though that I could live without it as I don't think it enhances the gaming experience to play a NES game in an arcade cab.

Yeah - I'd love to have the gun with Hogan's Alley & Wild Gunman, but we're back to the money thing again - I won't pay out the nose for an old junky gun and a couple games.

Prime example of gougery on these things - I guess maybe it's rare - so then OK maybe it's worth it - then reality says Metroid is a $10 NES cart.

With you here - I've thought about selling mine a couple times for cash to buy something else, but then I look at it, and it gives me warm and fuzzy NES feelings - Those sonsabitches at Nintendo really found a way to sink it into our hearts. :)

It's just a cool as hell NES-era oddity. The games are slightly enhanced in that you're playing them via RGB to a true RGB monitor. The sprites and colors come through really, really clear and vibrant compared to RF or composite on a television set. The instructions on the second monitor adds to the charm.

I have almost a complete NES library, so I don't HAVE to have a PC-10 in my arcade area...but on the flip side of that coin, I DO HAVE to have one. If I have things my way, it will never leave. Funny how that works out. :)

I seem to recall something on the net long ago where someone made an adapter for the PC10 to play nes carts. If it had that option the PC10 would be much cooler IMO.

I only bought my Playchoices because they were cheap. Got my first one for $100 because the monitor wasn't working and it had 2 games. The 2nd one I bought for $80 with no games and the monitor was not working. They're kinda cool to me just for the fact that it's a part of Nintendo history eventhough you're really just playing NES games in a arcade cab with better resolution (RGB).

What I like most about it is that Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! for Playchoice is the only version that saves your initials and the best times for beating each boxer. And this version is the only game for the Playchoice that you can't play on the NES or Famicom systems.

You can also play Nintendo Vs. pcbs in the Playchoice cab using the wiring harness of the Playchoice.

Growing up with the NES it was a no brainer to get the playchoice. I have a dedicated upright and countertop.

I like the fact that you can pause the games just like the console too.

I love my PC-10 and my kids love it too. It's much cleaner than having an NES hooked up to an LCD TV with wires and controllers everywhere.

Thanks for posting guys!! I just always wondered what the appeal was for these things. I played the two sided dual screen version (whatever it's name is) in a movie theatre back in the early 90's. It had Excitebike and a few others in it. I thought, hey!! this is the same as the NES!! After that I never played one again even though I saw them all the time. I think it was because I already had those games for NEs at home. I love Nintendo cabs in general and they are my favorite to restore so it may sway me towards buying one. I just got a VS Excitebike yesterday,is a PC10 single screen conversion a possibility?

I found mine for $200 so that was reason enough to get one. Its a dual monito with a lot of good games in it. Granted the cabinet was in terrible shape but everything was mechanically sound. I have a lot of extended relatives that visit that don't own the older systems so it's a good education on some of histories finer gaming experiences.

I added a PC-10 about two months ago. I wanted something for the kids (7, 5 and 3), they weren't taking to the games i play.

So far they are loving it - Nintendo is always a hit. Guests go to it first, mostly because my age group, (mostly) everyone had a Nintendo and the nostalgia factor is up front for them. The games all hold up (for the most part) - Mario series can be played forever, Punchout, Contra, etc.

I recapped the monitors, and the crisp clear colors pop and really make the cab stand out and shine. The variety of games cant be beat, and they are all classics. The background / attract music is a great add to the arcade too.

Yes, i hesitated because i have a Nintendo NES with some games - but it isn't the same. In fact my kids blew that off and play this more - the dedicated cab approach is clean and works well.

okay I have another question. When the timer starts counting down and is close to 0,do you just hit start again after coining it up a second time and the timer starts over again giving you more time? Can the timer be increased or decreased time wise through the dip switches?
