Why do people post ads without pictures?

Someone about an hour away from me is selling a machine on Craigslist. No pictures, no price, hardly any description at all about its condition. I've emailed the poster, but it just seems suspicious to me that someone wouldn't post a picture when cheap cameras are absolutely everywhere these days.

Any caveats when dealing with someone who hasn't posted a picture? Any legitimate reasons why they would do this?

There's a good chance they may be dumb.

It's surprising how many people still don't know how to get a picture from their phone to their computer or how to upload a picture to a craigslist ad from their phone.

Your 100% right on this!!!

yep, or just lazy

Same thing happens here at times.

Speaking of "for sale" here, my pet peeve is people don't put a location in the thread title. About 98% of games won't be in my area but I have to open up the message to check. It's a time wasting hassle. A big thank you for those that do!

Your phone takes pictures?
I have a 2G phone and I like how it fits into my pocket. I heard that they are discontinuing that service, but I will keep it until I can no longer make calls on it.

Personally, I'm always suspicious when no pics are posted.

There a LOTS of people (including lots of sellers here) that post adds with no pictures, vague (or misleading) descriptions, etc. so that they can sell the item and then make the problem yours. I've gotten to the point that I even want pics of PCBs now, or at least an affirmation from the seller that the PCB works, is not hacked, is not otherwise damaged, etc.

I would say that 7 out of 10 times the person does not post pictures or gives vague descriptions or responses they are hiding something.

when a seller gets constantly flagged off CL by other people trying to sell the same thing, they seem to "Half give up" and just throw a quick version of the sale up.

That's why I asked. I was kind of expecting to hear horror stories about similar ads. I wouldn't mind going to look if it were in town or one of the surrounding areas, but I need pictures to drive out to the middle of nowhere. He did reply after about an hour and said he'll send me pictures after 5 (it's 1 now) so I guess I'll just wait and see.

If I was still admin I would be actively deleting every ad without a location. That has been the rule here for years.

I and others proposed that a drop down be created or a form field which required location.

Some people got out pitchforks saying that would be too much work and would discourage people from selling.

I've come to conclude that many people will oppose change even just for opposition sake. How anyone can say with a straight face that typing your state or selecting from a drop box would discourage sales is just absurd to me... but this is an Internet forum where we can't agree on anything just because we don't have to... :)

You know, in our facebook group I decided that we needed to enforce people listing prices for sale items instead of just fishing for offers, announced it, enforced it, and damn, wouldn't you know it, people still list just as many items for sale and no one quit.

Rule already exists here, all it would take is for the current admins to start enforcing it for a few days and watch how quickly everyone would fall in line.

I always wondered about this. It's like posting an ad on a dating service with no picture, I mean do they really think people don't want to see the product? I don't get it, especially when even a 5 year old can easily take pictures nowadays.
