wHy dO pEoPlE lOvE Bubble Bobble?!?

The Taito cabs aren't all that friendly to co-op play. I think it is best in a Joust or Defender cabinet.

Your are right, but for some reason, keeping it in a Taito cab just feels right. That's where the conversion kit was originally meant to be in, correct?

The conversion kit was universal. In the early days of kits a lot of kit makers seemed to specifically target other game manufacturers cabinets on the few kits that were not universal.

I can't say I ever actually saw one in a Taito cabinet. Google images tends to agree, searching for Bubble Bobble arcade and only looking at actual physical cabinets shows no Taito cabs that I could see a definite bias towards Williams cabinets and some other assorted cabs thrown in for good measure. Last two I saw on our local craigslist were Joust and something Centuri.

My friends and I used to play Bubble Bobble on the NES all of the time. We kept trying to beat the game with the Good Ending without any continues or codes.
Then we tried to do the same in the Super Bubble Bobble mode. (less time before Hurry Up/Skel Monster and some enemies are swapped around).

Also I took great pleasure in always gobbling up the fruit, even if my team-mate killed the enemies.
I found the best way to do this was wait for my teammate to combo a group of bubbled-enemies and just sit exactly where the fruit would land. :D

I discovered the Arcade version a few years later and felt right at home with it. It certainly has a fond place in my heart.

The bubble bobble I got was a bubbles conversion. The bezel looks pretty good with the marquee.

So it was universal, that makes perfect sense.....I wish I could find a complete conversion kit. I searched high and low, and this beast does not seem to exist, or whoever has them are not letting them go.

Ok, so if anyone has this complete kit, or close to complete kit and wants to sell, send me a PM.

Also, if we were to name a TOP 5 cabinets for a Bubble Bobble, what would they be?

I will use this list to make my decision on a cab for my build.

I believe both the sideart and the CPO are just generic Romstar ones. There are bezels and marquees on ebay right now.

Cabs for Bubble Bobble

#1. Joust/Moon Patrol/Robotron
#2. Defender
#3. Dynamo HS 1/HS 2
#4. Centipede/Dig Dug/Kangaroo
#5. Sega Convertacab. (Zaxxon etc, not the greatest choice, but they make good 2 player cabs).

I'll check the Eb@y on that. But the generic Romstar stuff is brutal. This game rocks to play, the artwork should reflect that.

Actually, Im surprised no one came out with really nice artwork yet for this game for sale on a regular basis. Everyone seems to have to do custom work with each build.

If you were to go the Defender route...what does a working defender board set go for?

Well after reading over most of this thread, it seems I really should give BB a second chance. Initially I couldn't give a damn to play it. It just wasn't for me.

Puzzle Bobble on the other hand, I do have and spent many hours playing it one night just to finish the game.

So hopefully sometime this weekend I'll fire up some BB on the Mame and give it a go again. Normally I don't have a second player (ever) so it will be a solo trip.. but I'll make sure to give the devil it's due and play it more then just a few minutes.

Sasha, not sure if you saw this:

I guess you've changed your mind a bit? lol
I think a playchoice cab might work as well if you're going the custom artwork route. Sivermatrix on cgcc (silvereagle on here) is selling an empty cab...

I think BB works well in a Mario WB cab.

Glad someone else thinks this...I've been trying to move my Widebody project and find a nice williams cab as well....but I think I will go ahead with it this spring...Bubble Bobble widebody! :D

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I like this waaay better than the romstar cp overlay I had printed out. I think this is the one. I wonder how I can tweak it to fit the cabaret panel I am redoing. Man was it drilled and manhandled with bondo....

Hey Phoenix, ya I seen that thread on CGCC, its nice, but I just found a really good condtion Joust cab that I will convert to BB. It had all the Joust guts except the PCB which is perfect cause I could re-use some of that.

Cant wait to see how the BB will look in the widebody. Would love to help you out in the Spring.

Knew i had an old picture. This is what the bubble bobble in a bubbles cab looked like the day i picked it up about 6-7 years ago. Obligatory blurry camera phone photo included.

Blurry, but ya, looks good in the bubbles cab. Is it almost identical to the Joust cab? looks similar.

I have a customer who is a Bubble Bobble nut. Has flyers, posters, comics, etc. He has a custom-built new cab (Robotron-style) with what looks like that artwork. Looks very nice except for having no coin door and using an LCD monitor.

He had me install a JAMMA-switcher so he could also play Bubble Memories and Bubble Symphony. Now he can play all three in the one cab...

Nooooooooooooooooo, an LCD, how could he?????? CRT or nothing for a vintage game in a vintage cab.

For the 60 in 1, LCD sure, but in a Robotron cab you need a CRT.
