wHy dO pEoPlE lOvE Bubble Bobble?!?

Bubble Bobble has that co-op/competetive spirit that I love. We must work together to beat the levels but when a letter pops up that we both need or a powerup appears we both make a mad dash for it, leaving all our other priorities behind. I will risk 3 lives to get that damn umbrella before it dissapears!

the music is great as well but i think most people just have NES nostalgic feeling towards it.

Bubble Bobble was one of the first games I played where there were so many little nuances and tricks to help you beat the tougher levels and get higher scores(and they do get tough!)

I would love to own this cabinet!

I've always loved BB. Mall arcade had it BITD, and I had it on the Commodore 64 too. Once you learn some of the tricks to triggering stuff to happen, you can score alot higher. Also, if you want the true ending of the game, you need to play in super mode (by using a button/joystick combo prior to starting the game) and play with 2 players.

LOVE Bubble Bobble.

It was one of those games that was fun to play doubles... AND the NES version was pretty accurate.

I have a Neo Geo with a 100-in-1 cart and it basically stays on Puzzle Bobble... which I also love.

FOR YOUR REFERENCE

I love almost every Taito game from the 80's and 90's but Bubble Bobble is not one of them. I find it highly boring. Am I missing something? I can only tolerate to play about 3 levels before I play something else. I absolutely love Puzzle Bobble (Bust-A-Move) but not Bubble Bobble.

If you do love it -- why?????

Ya, Puzzle Bobble is addictive. Bubble Bobble however, isn't for me as well.

I love Bubble Bobble, extremely addicting. Power-up and extra points items, great music. Once you can get a good strategy going each level, you can go a long ways on one guy.

Keep playing, 3 levels do not do it justice. If you can make it to level 20 without dying, you will find out.

I love Bubble Bobble! One of my favorites (along with Robotron and Space Dungeon). The reason? The challenge. In the arcade version, I found it very addicting trying to make it to the secret rooms, deciphering the BB "language" and finding the code sequence ($JBLRJ$R) to change it into Super Bubble Bobble. When I first did the joystick and button sequence ($ = start, L = left, R = right, J = jump) in my local arcade (on the Virginia Tech campus as I was in college at the time) and the title screen changed to Super Bubble Bobble it was very exciting -- really. I also liked the game play very much.

If you want to see the true ending to the game (which I think it alludes to in all the secret rooms, if you decipher the language written on the walls), you have to use Super mode, and finish the boss with both players present (I don't think the 2nd player has to be there the whole game, but has to be there at the end)

OMG how can anyone NOT like Bubble Bobble??!! Its the classic arcade era game philosophy mixed with the diversity of the more powerful, late 80s arcade tech. You can play 100 straight games and have something different happen every time! Each stage is a puzzel to be mastered! I'm still running into powerups and strange occurances I've never seen before.

All this combined with one of the most skillfully designed difficulty curves of any game EVER! This game can keep you interested for years.

I LOVE Bubble Bobble !

This is my cabinet inside a Williams cab...

I sent in a nice scan from an original bubble bobble instruction card sheet to Rich at thisoldgame.com and he said he was going to produce it but i don't think it ever happened!

Nice, one of my goals is to someday dedicate a classic Taito cab to Bubble Bobble with a custom stenciled color scheme, bezel and CPO. Someday. :)

yep it was a robotron 2084... i even have 4'' 2-way wicos...

personally i think this is the best bubble bobble related picture...

Sadly bubble bobble was a kit only game and never had a dedicated cab like so many other great classics!

Yes, it has a boss.

It has tons of secrets.

Crazy score opportunities. On most levels you can get all or almost all the enemies in bubbles and pop them in one burst for tons of points. Multiple monster pops also cause the "extend" letters to come out on the next level.

These were quarters well spent for me as a kid. I didnt have many so this was a good way to make them last.

Give this game another go. 3 levels isnt doing it justice at all.

I had to get one, it was the only game my wife and i played togeather back in the day. There was an Arcade across from our highschool, it was awesome. Now my kids play Bubble Bobble and time eachother to see who can finish the game 1st, pretty cool. Mine is in a Robotron Cabinet but i have a nice Generic cabinet im going to transfer it to so i can save the Sini.

It serms to me that the game is crazy popular, I am surprised that Taito hasn't released a ton of sequels. There aren't a lot.

It's been said a bunch of times but co-op makes it fun. I agree that it doesn't hold my attention very well as a single player game.

Fly was totally right about BB, the game is very deep, although looks very shallow at first.

I just wanted to bump this thread and say I have changed my mind about this game.
