I am just wondering. I know the game has a few fans, but most people seem to just hate it. I have been playing it daily for the last 2 weeks and have been loving it. Admittedly, this wasn't one I played back in the day, and I decided I wouldn't even try to play it until mine was restored, so maybe I'm liking it because it is new to me. The game seems simple enough to be fun and comes with enough variety to keep me interested. I don't know, seems like a decent classic game to me. No better or worse than GORF I guess, and I actually like some of TRON's mini games better than GORF's. Thoughts? Any long-time fans of the game?

You know how I feel, the game play doesn't match the amazing effort that went into the cabinet design. The first example of a game made for a movie, and we all know how those in general turn out.

It wasn't horrible, but to easy and a tad bit boring. I would give it a play today if I ever had the opportunity.

I sold my Tron a couple of years ago, but I always loved it. The graphics were good and the sounds were awesome. No complaints here, except it isn't better than Gorf by a longshot.

I've had my Tron machine since 1996 and I love everything about it. Its the one machine I would never let go of.

I really enjoy playing TRON. I think it's a great and unique game. I love it. Def' one of my favs.

Discs of Tron is the one that I am not sold on just yet. I haven't played mine much yet as it's still a work in progress but I am not convinced it's a good game as of this moment.

Let me preface by saying my house has room for only one more game and it's reserved for a Tron cab, so I speak from a place of love...

...but I know I'm going to shell out big for one and everyone in the family but me will get bored with it. I think the biggest problem is the brevity of each phase of each rack. The light cycles minigame is usually over in about five seconds. The rest aren't a whole lot better. It's not that they aren't fun, but you cycle through them so quickly that it gets repetitive.

I don't know about hate, but I can certainly see how others find it rather "meh."

Gorf is a game I never saw BITD but I completely agree

Related question, would gorf be better or worse with a regular joystick and control panel mounted fire button?

For the era, the game play really wasn't that bad. No worse than Gorf, Krull and all the other 4 level loopers.

I think a lot of it comes from high expectations due to great looking cabinet, and that big honking flight stick controller. I honestly think that if the cab was a bit more subdued originally, and it had a more standard stick on it, people would probably think better of the gameplay.

Think its the greatest looking cabinet of all time, but not much love for the game itself. Here is my take on what is wrong:

The levels in the arcade game are based on the games from the movie.

The games in the movie are based on existing computer games that were already stale when the movie was made.

The end result of this game copying a movie copying a game (got that?) is gussied up versions of Combat, Breakout and Snake.

I was already sick of those games when the Tron was brand new.

I personally have never played it but have been warned from getting involved with TRON machines due to the games apparently sucking so bad. That's a complete shame to me because the cab is freakin awesome looking and I'd love to have one. I'd be interested in playing one just so I can garner my own opinion.

That's what I did. I was scared to play it at first thinking I'd want to kill myself for putting so much work into restoring mine. 2 weeks in and I am still alive.

It's available as an Xbox download, though it's not real playable without the spinner. The dual analogs are a pretty poor substitute.

Yeah I figured I could play a rom or bootleg of it somewhere but I'm afraid that without the proper controls my opinion would be falsely based. So... I'll wait to play it on an actual TRON machine if I ever do.

I played Tron pretty frequently BITD, but it was never one of the games that I just had to play. I played it at our local bowling alley and would definitely play other games ahead of it. Tron = meh.

Gorf is one of few games that I sold, then years later decided I missed enough to buy and restore another.

Here's the Tron I played BITD:

Not sure where I stand on Tron. I played it a lot BITD but it's been a while since I have played one. The gameplay isn't the best, but it isn't the worst by far. I see it as a game that you can get into for a while but eventually tire of and never play again. My wife's friend has one in the garage that I tried to get for a while and I don't even know if it's worth saving now due to the exposure to humidity. Maybe I'll venture out there to see if it is salvagable.

Tron isn't a bad game... I don't own one though because Tron DEMANDS to be in tip-top shape which means a shit-ton of $$... and Tron isn't worth a shit-ton of $$ IMHO.
