Who's holding on to games simply because of the price depression?

I've noticed many what I call - "In denial" - for sale posts both here and on CraigsList. Now, particularly on CL, I watch these machines get posted for like 6 months with maybe a 50 dollar discount at the dying end of the attempt. Usually though, they end up just keeping a machine they don't really want to keep, but refuse to sell for today's prevailing prices.

I have one or two in that category, so I've decided that they will be only up for trade in an attempt to get some sort of value equivalent beyond a dollar amount.

So, the question is, how many here are in that boat? You have games that are ready for a new owner and you're ready to move on from, BUT - no way in hell you're gonna accept 100-200 for your babies.

I have an Asteroids I've had at $375 for months. I dropped the price today to $295 for someone who'll pick it up this weekend...if thats a no-go it goes back up to $375 and I'll sit on the bastard for a year for all I care. $375 for this Asteroids is a freakin' steal let alone $295.

Yep, 295 is rock bottom for an Asteroids that's why I called it a price depression.

I was going to list my Asteroids for 6 hundo with an extra board and an extra cpo. I guess I'll be hangin on to that bad boy.

Yeah... I'm getting no love at all. I've had one person express interest but never showed up... that is it in about 3 months... total. I've had more people ask about the machines behind the Asteroids in the photos than the `stroids itself.

yeah its tough i let a few go way too cheap just bc i needed the money bad.. the rest ill hold onto forever before i give them away...

I hate to be a price police ass, but I had a chance to pick up an asteroids for 200. I decided it was too much and passed. I would maybe pay 100-150 but at this point it isn't worth 200 to me currently. There are too many other deals to be had.

that being said - I have several games I will probably never get rid of because I'm not willing to sell them what someone will pay right now. Sadly, they will probably never get back to the point they were, but who knows?

Price Policing in the General forum is fine... but $200 for an Asteroids? The monitor is damn near worth that alone. But you're right... it's worth what you're willing to pay (and/or what the selling is willing to part with it for).

Yeah prices are definitely down. I picked up a nice working Asteroids Deluxe and Tron for $200 each about a month or so ago.

Gee this thread makes me feel warm and fuzzy for paying $200 for my NW Asteroids.....

But it works now, and the side art, bezel and marquee are in superb shape. So a new CPO, button and re-done coin door will make it worth $600.00 to me :p

Sounds like a thread about operators who think their machines that have sat in run down warehouses for 20-30 years are still worth what they paid new.

But yeah, I don't plan on selling any of my small collection for cheap.

I'm just hoping for this to hit pinball prices. I'm sick of seeing pins that are only decent condition, and fairly common still sit at around $1,200.

That's crazy cheap. I've seen Trons listed on CL for $400 and they are sold instantly.

I'm looking to buy some games (and I'm willing to pay a reasonable price) but I can't seem to find them in my area.

I'm looking for:
Tron
Mario Bros.
Q*bert
Carnival
Swimmer
Gorf
Star Wars
The Simpsons
Discs of Tron UR

Ooh.. Swimmer! That's a pretty fun game, but not too easy to find.

Well I've got a couple listed that have been restored, and I'll sit on em how ever long it takes. It's just 2'x3' areas.. I am however buying everything I can get my hands on due to everything going rock bottom..

Thanks. I already asked Darryl about a Tron he had on his flickr page but he says he's keeping it for now.

Dunno about complete games, but board prices are better than normal right now, I guess because of the Christmas rush. It's certainly better than it was last year at this time. I just wish I had more to sell right now. :p
