Color me a sucker, I just preordred one. The display looks really nice and I just got a really good camera so it'll be nice to have something portable with such good display to view photos on. And I'm sure games will be coming out that will be optimized for it so...

No matter what excuse I give, I just kind of feel like a sucker for going for the 'new model once a year' thing, but whatever. Might as well get the new one and sell the iPad 2 while it's still got as much value as it currently has.

I just pre-ordered one too. I bought the 1, skipped the 2, just pre-ordered the 3. I think every other release works for me.

Same with the iPhone, bought the 3, skipped the 3S, bought the 4, skipped the 4S, waiting for the 5...

I think iPhone is on a 16 month schedule, so you've got like a year before the next one. Some pretty beefy android phones out though, so maybe they'll revert to annual releases.

I don't see the appeal of all the iPad/iPhone stuff, myself. I'm not anti-Mac or anything, though my wife does like to say that we live in a strictly non-Apple household, which is true :p

I certainly wouldn't be buying each iteration as soon as it comes out (contrary to my history with handheld gaming platforms :p)

Not buying and I was waiting for this, I owned the 1 and got the 2 right away, I could care less about the camera and the processor, the new retina display would be nice but not enough to make me jump in, guess I'll be keeping my 2.
Besides it's heavier and thicker than the 2....Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave now....:p

I'm probably getting one, just not straight away. I bought both the 1 and 2, and I read incessantly… The Retina display will be awesome for that. My iPad 2 goes to my older daughter (5), and her iPad 1 goes to my youngest (1!).

Same here. Bought 1 skipped 2, seriously considering 3. I really need to play on one first to see this screen in action though. Just disappointed that 500 bucks still yields the same storage size 16gb. It was nice when every version of old apple devices seemed to get more storage space with the next iteration.

So when 4 comes out, does the 1 go to the cat?

Not me, I am using an iPad 2 bought new, won't go that path again!
It just costs too much to keep buying the most recent thing.

We went the opposite way.
Picked up a nice condition iPad 1 tonight for $249 (32gb &3G) :D
Figured the 3G would be handy for trips, and the wife wanted one.

Keep on with Microsoft Windows.....7.... Then 8.... Getting closer to Mac emulation every version!!!!

Wow, this is the exact same thing me and my friend were saying at work today. We both just recently finished the Jobs biography audio book and that was the first thing that popped into my head. :)

The iPhone 3G was thicker than the EDGE iPhone.

If they don't make them crappier every now and then, how do you expect to be wowed when they make another one as good as the one two iterations ago?

I'm typing this on my itouch 16GB that I got ages ago. Does it's job still to this day, apple does make some awesome products. Been happy with every iPod I ever owned. Can not say that for PCs or Windows.

I've got an iPad 2, not going to upgrade to the newest this time. I have always been on the every other schedule. My first iPhone was the 4 so I will be waiting for the 5. Same with the iPad.

I mainly wanted the iPad to surf, check email, etc. Its a really convenient device to use in that regard. I could had gotten any tablet I guess but this is what I ended up with.

I do like the quality of Apple's products. I have never had any major issues with anything.

The iPad 1's still cost that much? Do they still even sell them new in stores or does the old model drift away a while after the new one launches?

I guess :p Win8 seems more like a mobile platform than anything else, though it still seems like Win7 on the back end. I don't much care for what I've seen of Win8 so far, but whatever.

I don't have a cat. It will go to the houseplant.
Neat. Let me know how that works out :) I suppose the glow of the screen will help it grow.

I understand the debate between Windows and MacOS or even PC vs Mac in general, but I don't see how you can compare an iPod to a PC/Windows. iPod vs Zune, I can understand. Just sayin'.

This is why I decided to get one of the Touchpads while they were cheap as hell. I have no real use for a tablet such as the iPad and felt I would only use one to surf the net and maybe check emails and such from the couch or whatever. There was no way I was going to pay several hundred dollars just for that. Now that I have the TP, do I use it for anything else? Nope. It rests on the side table next to my couch and only really gets used in situations where my wife or I are like "Hey, that guy looks familiar - what else has he been in?" I grab the TP and check IMDB right there - done. Seems lame, yeah, but what else would I use that thing for? If I go on a business trip, I need a laptop, not a tablet. If I'm at home, I'm at my desktop. If I'm out and about and need to look up something, I'm on my phone.

Your not familiar with the iPod Touch? It's an iPhone sized iPad.

I saw some guy using Facetime on his iPad in a diner while he was eating his food. He had it propped up on the other side of the table like it was an actual person sitting there. Felt awkward and futuristic at the same time.
