I found my first one yesterday! It was pretty neat, although I didn't get as much gold as I thought I would. So how to get to one...
You need to be playing in Adventure Mode. When you see a treasure goblin, after you kill it, sometimes you can click on the portal and go into the realm where the goblins are from. You can also come across Rainbow Goblins who spawn a rainbow portal which takes you to the MLP realm, but that isn't as exciting.
