Whoa. I Never Even Knew this Existed.

Funny these things don't get talked about much around here. Everyone laments that arcades are gone and no one builds true classic arcade machines anymore, yet a company tried to re-release the classics in new cabs (and kits) a mere 8 years ago and nobody cared. It seems that the only 're-release' that ever gets any press are those damn Ms. Pac/Galaga Reunion cabs with the 25 inch monitor. I remember starting a thread a few years back about the SI/Qix combo machines and all I got was crickets. Wonder why?

I have seen this pop up a few times on craigslist, i think just last week he was wanting $750 for it...

I'm on their website right now and I gotta say those look pretty cool! They have different cabinet designs to choose from too! I wonder how much they are new though...

Maybe the Robotron/Defender re-releases just weren't bought by very many operators? The only times I've actually seen them in the flesh were at an arcade auction and Disney Quest. In both cases they were the dedicated 25" monitor versions. I bought some back issues of Game Room Magazine before they called it quits and they were advertised pretty heavily in there when they were new. Any idea how many dedicated and kit versions were sold?

I always thought a "greatest hits" arcade cabinet that focused on a specific manufacturer would do well. I know that's basically what the Namco Pac Man's Arcade Party is. Imagine going somewhere that had that, an Atari version, a Taito version, and a Williams version. With those four cabs you could have 40 plus good games that the average Joe would actually recognize and want to play.

I think the SI/Qix combo didn't work for a couple of reasons. First, most of the people that played the hell out of SI when it was new moved onto Galaga and never looked back. That's also part of the reason the Ms Pac/Galaga combo still does well. SI just doesn't hold up as well to the average person. Couple that with Qix not having the broad audience appeal of Ms Pac pretty much doomed the game. I'm surprised the Donkey Kong/DK Jr/ Mario Brothers didn't do better. I think Dave & Busters is pretty much the only place I've ever seen it.

I agree. I've actually seen that one a few places while on vacation. Resort in Orlando, arcade in Vegas, Dave & Busters in San Jose and the arcade at Disney World. I think the 25 inch monitor and the fact that Mario Bros is being played on a vertical monitor may have scared purists away.

I saw one in person a number of years back. It was at an amusements/arcade/pinball/slot machine place near me. This was back when they were regularly asking $1200-$1400 for original Ms. Pac-Man machines. I'm sure it was priced over the $1000 range so I never gave it a second look. Cool machine, though.

I think they don't get the love they deserve because they are $3,000 new. $350 for one that's 8 years old seems like a good deal.

I never even heard about Team Play and the Robotron/Joust boards till Klov member "gamingdevice" posted a kit for sale this last Sunday http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=242703 , when I first saw it I was like what the hell is this a bootleg ?? Anyways when he told me it was an official release I had to buy it . I forgot to ask him , I hope theres two pieces of side art . Whats cool is I just got back from picking up a nice Joust cab off Craigslist that was painted black and is really clean .

What type of hardware is the board running ? Its not MAME is it ?
