Looking for someone to repair a cbo-fbo chassis out of a Pacman cabaret. thanx fred

Best in the field? Really? Can you support? Who are you comparing them to? What is your basis for selecting them better than anyone else?

Dozens of witnessed repairs, hundreds of testimonies, and the failure of everyone else except for one person who's still yet to work on it) to repair a troublesome chassis of my own. Chad knows what he's doing, and is in my opinion the best monitor repair for hire you can get. Hands down.

I've tried the rest. Chad's the best.

Please document the others you have tried. What were your problems with them? What were their rates? Very interested to hear your experience. I'm sure others would be interested in this information too. Sharing this kind of information is valuable to all.

I am not knocking Chad, just citing absolute facts. The place I mentioned, is documented proven fact cheaper, and by using Chad's own web page of logs of turnaround time, the repair I had with allgood was faster.

Please folks, no baiting. I'm not burning anyone here on the forums. Those of you who have done work with me in the past and have unsuccessfully repaired my monitors, you know who you are.

Look at the thread title. I offered my recommendation. Take it for what it's worth. If anyone needs to know more, you may PM me.

Arc, I fixed my own 6100, thus I didn't need your expertise. Thanks for chiming in, though, I'm sure you do good work.

Arcadecup.com (best in the field?)

I've tried the rest.

I have no problem with anyone endorsing anyone. I'm not trying to start anything either. I sincerely wanted more information on how someone can say "best in the field" and "I've tried the rest". If you tried others and they didn't measure up, I want to hear about it. Heck, I imagine everyone would like to hear about who to avoid. What was better about arcadecup? What was bad about the others? There is nothing wrong with posting objective reviews, even if they may be negative, as long they are factual. Posting information like that is good for everyone in the hobby. It leads to more working games, faster and for a cheaper price, if we all know who to go to and who to avoid.

Good for you if you like Chad's work. I happen to like allgood (and have documented proof they are cheaper and faster). I just would like to hear information about the others you have tried for your comparison that led you to the conclusion that Chad it the best.

Fine. Here's what I know. My apologies in advance for the shitstorm this may cause. These opinions are from my own experience. YMMV.

Allgood: Carl Blessing is a great guy to work with, but he does a lot of high volume work on current hardware. He only deals in retail parts, and doesn't do much troubleshooting. (it's actually his tech staff that does the repairs). I sent him a Wells Gardner 19K7302 with a failing flyback and he told me he couldn't repair it, since the flyback was no longer available. I called Chad @ Arcade cup, and he had the flyback. He sent it to me and I fixed the chassis myself.

Buffett: Mike, you're a great guy, but you got stuck with my haunted chassis on this one. I had a Wells Gardner 25" 7400 chassis with a jumpy picture, thread is here. This chassis has been the bane of my existence for nearly 2 years now. I had a local guy look at it first, and when he couldn't fix it, I sent it off to Mike (Buffett). Buffett spent a ridiculous amount of time on the chassis, and couldn't repair it. So, he sent it to Phoenix Arcade Repair (P.A.R.) here on the forums for me.

P.A.R. (Phoenix Arcade Repair): Tim from P.A.R. took my chassis in for repair and sat on it for 6 months. At times, I had to PM or call him 3 or 4 times to get him to return my messages. After 6 months of broken communication and zero repair updates, he finally had his tech spend about four hours with my 7400 chassis, and he couldn't fix it. Then I went back into my repair thread listed above, and asked for help. Modessitt chimed in, and let me know he'd look at it. That's (supposedly) where my chassis is now.

Chris25810: Yes, I've had the old bastard repair 1 or 2 of my chassis in the past. He does very good work. Unfortunately, he spends his time playing cribbage and shuffleboard these days, so I can't recommend him for monitor repair.

Chad @ Arcadecup.com: Chad answers his mobile on the 2nd ring at the latest. Twice I've gotten his voicemail, and he's called me back within an hour. He is ALWAYS patient with me, gives me tips, free advice, help when I'm stuck. Hell, he's even helped me with pcb and PS3 repairs. He's always willing to talk to me and I never feel like I'm bothering him. His latest repair for me was a Makvision that I got from kjeffery that was outputting crazy color signals. Chad doesn't normally work on 19" Makvisions, so he asked me to send my yoke to him so he could bench it. I agreed. He found the failing parts, replaced them, and had my chassis back to me in a week. He even agreed to do some extra work on the input connector, reversing it to match my cabinet's wiring. He's also in Green Bay, which means UPS shipping for me is 1 day.

Does Chad's work cost more? Yes. Do you get more? Yes.

Do others here do great work? Yes. Would I use others? Yes, and I have.

Like I said, these are just my own experiences in the past year or so. The landscape of folks that are doing monitor repairs is constantly changing, so I really don't care to discuss anyone else that's done work for me, because they are either no longer in business, local only to my 20 mile trade area (yellow pages) or not open to new business (i.e. favors only).

So, long story short, get your monitor work done with Chad. Yes, you'll have to wait in his queue. But the wait, the work, the attitude, the follow up, the phone support....it's all worth it.

Thank you VERY much for a thorough review. I don't think you said anything that should start a war. Sure there are two sides to every story and likely the others in your post will have opposing views. But you gave very reasonable details on all the incidents. I think it's good information for all considering monitor repair.

Nope. You asked me a while back if I ever got it, and I told you no. Still haven't got it. Was PAR supposed to ship it to me? If so, check with them...

I did. Twice. His last response said he'd forgotten to send it, and that he would get it out right away.

Did you happen to get that chassis sent off?

No .. it will go out today. I am sorry I was out of town, gave it to one of my guys and he didnt do it.
I appologize.
Tim

P.A.R. for the course, I guess. I'll send another PM.

Correction: I wrote cbo-fbo. I just looked at it & it`s a go7-fbo. Also thanx for the responses guys !

100000X!!

Yep, P&L are total garbage.. If you want the cheapest repair place and have them do the bare minimum work.. Go with them. I've got a dozen chassis with P&L stickers on them sittin on my shelf.. 4 have brand new flybacks with holes in them.. 2 have some caps replaced and weird mods I've never seen before.. The rest are a combo of random repairs that lasted a week or less on location.. So yeah, I've got (12) chassis here.. All dead or messed up.. All with P&L stickers.. 19" K7000s and 25" k7000s.

Avoid P&L!

I'm a fan of Chad at Arcadecup.. He's my go to guy when all else fails.. You get what you pay for with chad. Wish I could afford to send him more..

Also, Peale is top notch for GO7 repairs.. He's rebuilt a few of mine and I've bought a bunch of parts from him.. Also came over a while back and gave me a hand with a bunch of monitor repairs.. Good dude, Eventhough he's from VT. Heh

You mean those hack jobs that some people call repairs? I've repaired more of their "repairs" than I can count.

I have seen Buffett do a tube swap at an arcade party. He swapped a tube from a tv to an arcade game and had to modify the yoke. I don't know much about monitors and really don't like Mucking with them AT ALL but he did this in about 1 1/2 hours; from start to finish. He dialed in the colors and it was finished and working when he was done. When he was modifying the yoke he allowed the customer to practice de soldering parts from the television chassis with his re work station. I helped him at his cleanup party and he will soon have a proper work bench to do several repairs. He does know what he is doing and if I have a problem he is the one I go to.

EDIT:

I still have the old yoke he had to cut parts off of to make that tube work.
