who turned you on to KLOV?

Back in my console playing days I listened to a podcast called Videogame Outsiders. One of the co-host, John a.k.a. blkdog7, was going on and on and on about a Donkey Kong he had purchased. He would continue to talk about what a great resource the klov forums where. Shortly after I bought my first Pac (now on my third) and joined the forums.

SilverUnicorn told me about it. I was into RGVAC back in the day, took a video game hiatus (moved to pinball), hung out on RGP for a few years... Took a break altogether, and got completely re-addicted to it all via KLOV. :)

It was a natural progression from RGVAC

I was on RGVAC for a while, but then all the spam hit and many of the decent people left. Since it doesn't have the different sections that this place does, the flame wars really stood out. I checked out KLOV a few times, but never knew there was a forum. Finally I saw a RGVAC post about this place and I checked it out. I haven't been back to RGVAC since.

I started browsing the BYOAC forums in the fall of 2008 when rmackie6661 sold me a double dragon cab and gave me a free empty Rolling Thunder cab. I was in the process of MAME'ing the Rolling Thunder cab when I started posting on BYOAC.

Funny - I went back and read my first post - I asked what a front end was. *gack*

Some time later, I had sold my Double Dragon cab to River City Extreme in Monticello, MN. I picked up another non-working DD cab in the Twin Cities. I was troubleshooting the PCB when I stumbled across the schematics thread here. I begged to be Channelmaniac's protoge' :D

Looks like my first post in the KLOV forums was just a little bit over a year ago - March 7th, 2010. I was looking for Double Dragon schematics.

A few months later (fall 2010) I found myself with 12 cabs in my garage and the OMG pizza thread began. The rest is history -- all 7 months of it.

This hobby consumes a person, no doubt.

Back in the days of dial up internet, the 450MHz Pentium III, analog-only cell phones and mini disc players; I found KLOV with a Yahoo search (IIRC). I suddenly discovered that the somewhat distant childhood memories I had of playing classic arcade games could actually be relived in person in my own house. That was about 11 years ago. I had already been using E-bay heavily in my model train hobby so that helped me get parts I needed. I kind of hovered around here for about a year before getting my first game but all the tech info I was able to find was of great help.

The King of Kong got re-interested in arcades. Goo Goo led me here. Thanks goo goo for ruining my life. (j/k)

Longtime rgvac.

I'm not so sure how much spam killed rgvac as opposed to major providers pulling direct access to newsgroups. Reading the groups through Google spoiled it a little too. Their search capabilities seemed to ebb and flow also.

Seems like there is more of a wider cross-section of collectors here. Some of the thinner-skinned ones wouldn't have hung around rgvac very long.

The moderators help a little in that aspect, but they also kind of promote a non-free speech feeling.

That's my opinion.

heard about klov through an old carpentry boss like 12 years ago.....
i would check it out once in a while to see what games existed, but had no idea what a message board even was.........
i am still new to the computer scene, but have been playing arcade and pinball for 30 years.

exact same way.. i found Klov on yahoo, and used it to look up games. about 2 years later i noticed the "forums" at the top lol! i coulda been here for TWO years, and just never noticed it.

Same story here. I had a Nintendo cab that the monitor went out in. I googled "how to fix an arcade monitor" and the klov forums showed up.

Yay.

yeah, with me, i remember before this was really around, before craigslist got big, and it was hard as hell to find games. i picked up a really nice pac and paid way too much for it (750) but didn't know any better. in august of '03 i picked up a dead sea wolf for $25 and was trying to fix it, so i found this place, and i've been here since.

Longtime RGVAC and VAPS member here.

I had kind of backed off the hobby since RGVAC pretty much died out. It went from the same volume as RGP down to a trickle over the years. I never really knew what happened to everybody so I thought collecting had pretty much died out.

I was still checking in RGVAC when one day I rec'd a reply to a post from ArcRevival (Dave) who was a friend of mine during RGVAC days. He told me to come and check out the KLOV forums because there's alot of activity on there and alot of the old timer RGVAC guys are on there as well. My RGVAC name was Computerspace.

I tried to sign up here with that name and ran into all kinds of password issues and was not able to actually get on the forums. I tried again some months later with this screen name and was able to get it working, finally.

Last year, thanks to KLOV and taking my son to the CAX for the first time, I was really into the game mode again. Seven new games made it to my place - the first time in years I had bought anything new. A couple more have made it this year, so I'm back into it again!

I found KLOV when trying to find paintcodes for DK since I scratch built my cabinet. I never signed up until I decided to buy a DK coin door for my cab. I have been on BYOAC longer than here, but was told to come here when asking about actual cabinet information.

I had looked at KLOV for info on games or whatever, but never noticed the forums. Once I saw how active it was I knew I had to join. Prior to this I was spending a lot of time over at BYOAC, but this place was a better fit since we're mostly about original machines and hardware. RGVAC seemed to be a lot less active to me so I mostly stopped checking it.

I was looking for a game that I played as a kid, but I couldn't remember the name. I stumbled onto the database, saw there was a forum, registered, and the rest is history.

Oh, and the game was Pleiades.

So it seems in most cases google or yahoo is the culprit, glad to see I wasnt the only one who didnt know about the forum.and just using it for research.

I think I had been to the old KLOV site a long time ago. I didn't know about the forum until another member Monsterbash said I should ask here about the Meltdown marquee I had.
