Who regrets buying a Tron pin?

I disagree.

What Stern did with the Tron LE and the fact that it is such a big hit and the prices being so high is to have this in the back of everyone's mind when the next LE is released "oh, I better pre-order the LE or I won't be able to get one and it will be hard to get later and the price will go through the roof like it did with Tron LE".

Lots of people will have that mindset.....despite what has happened with TF LE. ;)

OMFG I'm gonna rant:

It's short sighted (and personally, kind of dumb). Stern and distributors are banking so hard on the collector community and our gullible willingness to drive prices sky high, when that market is so small in comparison to who they should be really trying to attract to their product. It snags a couple hundred blind pre-orders from a handful of wealthy fools (no offense) frightened to miss out on the next table, while giving up on attracting a much wider audience.

They should have produced that machine to wind up everywhere on the damned planet. They really should have given the Pro models EL wires as well, as much as LE owners will probably disagree. That wire is such a no-brainer fluff addition to the game. I don't see how Joe Blow could possibly ignore a Tron machine on route with those ramps glowing like that.

On topic, people who own Tron shouldn't regret it. Fuck the "resell value" issue (so tired of that crap butting in when discussing good/bad games). It's just a great fucking game. The only thing I hate about LE's that started with Tron, which became slightly worse with Transformers and full blown with AC/DC is adding major gameplay elements between Pro and LE. If collectors want to pay extra for an LE with special toys and lights, fine, whatever. Cool. I get it. Paying more in order to play the true or finished version of the gameplay, however, is bullshit.

It's marketed like the gameplay is a bonus for dropping the cash, but it is coming off more and more like people buying/playing on Pro's are given an unfinished game design...because they didn't cough up cash. That's such a shitty direction for pinball game design to go in*.

Sometimes modern pinball is awesome. Sometimes it makes me sick.

*and before someone says, "Video games do it with DLC", video games by their nature can be upgraded/patched (doesn't make it any better). You can't saw and bolt in the lower playfield on AC/DC just because you bought the Pro and want to pay the difference to upgrade to the LE gameplay.

I just put on my new T-shirt that says "I liked TRON LE before it was cool"

I have always loved my machine, could care less that's its sky-rocketed in price, i'll never sell it unless i have to and it will be one of the last to go.
Just wish they would update the code, then it would join the ranks of Lord of the Rings and Spider Man.

Transformers on the other hand... jury is still out on that one. Its good but not great.

I still think TFs is a great game. I think the stuff that Gomez cut out is what people are pissed about. Yes the mini-pf should have never been put there either.
I still enjoy playing it.

Back to Tron. Stern got a lot of negative feedback and a lot of pissed off customers when Avatar LE was announced weeks after people were buying the pro. Some of their employees stated Stern will never do that again and no announce something after the fact.

Everything is now announced ahead of time. Pro, LE, or Premium. You want to reap the rewards, take the risk and pre-order.

I have faith in Borg and I don't see the next pin being dull. Maybe Gomez learned to never mess with the ramps from Pro to LE. We'll see.

FWIW, it's 7 months after buying mine, and I have no regrets whatsoever. It always has a line of people playing at parties, and I still play it the most when I'm on my lonesome. Great pin.

Tron was a grand slam for Stern. Its unique and plays like no other pin i have owned. As much as i would love to 'cash in' on the unexpected rise in price, i cant bring myself to do it.

I have a friend who debated getting one since the launch. He just got it this weekend (a pro model). He has a lineup of 10 alisters. He told me yesterday its the best game hes played, his teen kids cant stop playing it, he cant believe what took him so long. Sure its a new pin, but i've spoken to him on every new pin he got in and never heard the enthusiasm he has now.

Wait till he sees the difference on an LE!

He's talking about the sneak peek photos from Borg's new game (probably Xmen or Avengers) on facebook.

No I was joking - we talked about a Facebook themed pin I dreamed up in another thread. It didn't go over well.

I guess IF there is ever another Tron movie made they could make another pinball based on it.

well this is one LE owner who is in total agreement with you on the EL wire....TRON just screams for it, LE or not. it's completely ghey to leave it off the pro version.

i also agree that leaving MAJOR gameplay and/or playfield features off of one version is annoying as hell, but i guess STERN sees it as a way to get the collector to come off the hip for the premium versions of their pin.

Woohoo! Lawsuit multiball!

Unfriend bonus for draining.

My TRON LE get played the most and I have IM, TFLE, SM, LOTR and TSPP to name a few.

Greg and Hugh are just haters. Stern for life son.

Hah! No, I'm just sick of paying out the butt for "overpromise and underdeliver"

I just went on Transformers:The Ride 3D at Universal Studios 3 times in a row....I wish the pinball was as cool and exciting as that!!! :)

Yeah that was meant to be tounge and cheek, I know you and Hugh are far from Stern Haters\BW Fanboys.

My friend here got an LE, and while he does like the pin, I think he secretly regrets it. He sold off a LOT of stuff to get that pin... only to have parts start breaking after a couple of weeks of lite use. Rubbers breaking, the disc flying off, lights stopped working because of broken solder joints... he likes the pin, but I'm sure he would've passed on the LE if he knew it was going to be made with such poor quality.

As for me, I love the fact that he got it because I can go over to his place and play it whenever I want. So... no regrets about it on my end.

That's why I'm amazed that anyone would pay $9k for a NIB recent Stern (Tron LE)...who knows what's gonna come out of that box. Your friend should cash in while the gettin's good...$8.5k for that falling apart piece of shit! LOL ;)

ha. i know you were at least half-joking.....but did i just get lucky on my TRON LE? the only problem i've had so far (KNOCK ON THE BIGGEST PIECE OF WOOD I CAN FIND!!!) is that the upper left flipper borked out on me one night while playing. they sent me a new board right away and it fixed the problem.

maybe i just got lucky on the rubber disc/etc?

RBION - yecch... could not get rid of it fast enough.

Yea, it's easy to say that after you've sold it. While it's still in your possession, if it's a dog, I can understand why someone might not say so.

Personally, I don't see any of the recent Sterns holding their value. I understand you have dogs in the race. I don't. That's not to say I don't want a Stern.. actually I bought a Stern machine Saturday... for $125. *snicker*

But seriously (actually I did buy a Stern for $125), there are a few Sterns I'd like to get, such as TSPP or RBION. I just haven't been impressed with the most recent ones.
