Hello

I have a cap kit for my WG K4613 from Competitive Products Corporation and when I compared it with a list I found for the Zanen 201 kit, I saw the latter had a few extra parts. But while reading the post at:

http://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=131.msg697#msg697

for help in installing the kit, I see that the kit in that post seems to have even more parts than the Zanen kit. Anyone know which kit that one is or where I can get one equally well stocked? Seeing as how everyone says the 4600 is a hard monitor to access to replace caps, I'd like to do it just once and get as many caps done at once as I can.

Thanks, Dominic

The problem with K4600 cap kits is there was many versions of the K4600....some had more caps than others. Whoever makes the cap kit, might not be using the version with the most caps....thus, you can be a few caps "short". The cap kit in your link (looks) like a Bob Roberts cap kit (or someone is copying his layout sheet).

If anyone can confirm it's Bob's kit, I'll add one to my list of things to order from him. I couldn't find a list of his parts for his 4600 and G07 kits, but my 4900 kit from CPC matches his kit and the Zanen 202. Does anyone know if Bob's G07 kit has more parts than the Zanen 101? If so, I'll pick up one of those too.

I was going to use the Mouser links someone else provided a while back, but Mouser only use courier companies for overseas shipping, so it was going to cost me an arm and a leg.

I just capped a K4600 using Bob's Bulk pack of Electrolytic caps he sells. I had all of the caps except the one Bi-Polar cap. That kit is something like $40, but it is awesome. I have have so many monitor worthy caps on hand that I have not needed to order caps for anything in a while.

Also, accessing the caps on the 4600 isn't that bad. I thought it would really suck, but the two boards in the middle just pull off when you remove the black cross bar on the top. The small power board on the side comes off easy since the metal frame releases with two quick detach plastic connectors. The plastic from on the bottom just unlatches and pulls off once you remove a single screw holding a plate that keeps it on. All in all the cap kit went very smoothly. I still prefer a GO7 though. ;)

I don't know which has more, but Bob sells those deluxe kits with the Hot, Flyback, Width coil, fuses, etc. I bought several of those and have been using them and they are very nice.

I don't think there are any deluxe kits for the 4600 and 4900 - I assumed VJ was just referring to the deluxe G07 kit.

So what do people do if the flyback dies on a 4600/4900? Get a new monitor?

Yeah, I was referring to the GO7 question in the post I quoted. I suspect you can pickup a used flyback/chassis if yours went bad. The guy that sold me my Qix threw in a spare 4600 chassis/flyback setup so I was lucky enough to not have to worry about it.

Chad at arcadecup is having the 4900 series' flyback reproduced and it is supposed to be available in late September (I think).

I think I've only ever had 2 bad 4900 flybacks. It'll be nice to have a new replacement. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we start seeing more bad 4900 flybacks. Remember when you used to hear..."Sanyo EZV flybacks don't go bad".

I don't think I've ever had a bad 4600...yet!
