Who Likes Gyruss???

NOTE: The opening on the monitor insert should be at the bottom and not the top. (I'm sure this will start another debate but reference the original game flyer on KLOV) Sure which someone would recreate those inserts. Mines warped

The opening of the cardboard monitor bezel is at the top (so it it "U"-shaped). That is how it is pictured in the flyer, and how the artwork makes sense.

Gyruss is one of my favorite arcade games, I have two of them.
I played it alot on the atari 2600 when I was a kid so I had to get the real thing.
Mame and multiboards butcher the game, nothing beats a dedicated gyruss.
I have a high score save kit in mine and getting ready to add it to the two extra boards I have. You gotta have high score save.

Surprisingly, you can usually pick up a Gyruss for a decent price. I paid $230 for my first one and it had a new monitor in it. I bought it from an op and I dont think he knew the monitor was new. I popped the back door and said "cool, new monitor!" and his face got a weird expression like he wished he had looked because he would have swapped it with a crappy one before I got there :)

I really like the NES port. Its way different from the 'cade version isnt it? I dont think the arcade version has the same structure as the NES version.

Outstanding game as most have said here. I had one back in the day (had to sell) and it was the second game i had to get back. Now i have another one in my collection and it'll be there for a long time! Well, that is unless i find one in better condition then i'll trade up..LOL Karl is the man....

I LOVE my Gyruss!! Even More Since I got one of Matt Osborn's HS save kits for it!!
And I concur - the opening is supposed to be at the top. The shading on the planets is a giveaway.

I have only played the game in MAME, so I can't compare the gameplay. What is different between the original and the MAME emulation?

Thanks

Whats funny is the game play is accually different on the 60-1, so far I have noticed on the first level when the ships are flying out they dont shoot at you. On the dedicated they are shooting right from the get go.

And yes they Joystick is way awesome.

That is a setting. Your dedicated is set at a harder level than the 60-in-1 was set at... thought he multi can be set for harder play with a soft-dip.

Cool I will look at that. I assume my 60-1 is set on easy, since I have not changed the defaults.

Man I really like this Monroe joystick!!!

The question is - who DOESN'T like Gyruss (the original upright) - I bought mine for $100 and sold it a few years later and I've regretted it ever since.

This thread inspired me to install HSS kits on both my spare PCBs. Man that kit is extremely easy to install, takes about 10 minutes a board.
