Who Likes Gyruss???

Just rolled in home, 3:30am been driving since about 9:30am this morning!! 800 miles, 18 hours, with none of the crap for me! Another cab to dropoff in the morning, wait it is morning, I should say in 8 or so hours... Everytime I do this crap I wonder why it is I do it?! Somehow my labor worked out to be about -$3.00 an hour! :p

Gyruss is the shiznit, for sure! I wasn't planning on letting it go, its on my keeper list and wouldn't have been in my top 10 to unload if I had to. I was heading to Spokompton to haul games for some klovers, wasn't actually getting anything myself just sacraficing a day and some wear and tear on my truck for the cause. DJW mentioned how he would be interested in a Gyruss and I'm fighting a huge space, power, and money battle. Not really a sale, more like a 3 or 4 way trade to get to the machine I want more... as long as the ball on the next cabinet doesn't get dropped I should have a very interesting machine showing up.

Shilmover, my damn back is killing me... next time I pick something up for ya it better be on ground level and have an effin' 19" :D

Now I need to find another Gyruss to trade for and cherish again!! :(
 
Gyruss

I dont like Gyruss. I love it. I had 2 of them at one time and had them siting side by side, It is fun for 2 people to start there games at the same time and watch how fast each one advances. Verry different. I played it on a multi I built last night and it is horrible because of the distorted sound. Nothing beats the dedicated.

Does anyone know for sure if it is supposed to have a red ball top joy or black?
 
I've recently gotten into playing Gyruss in mame and it's really fun. the one thing that gets me though is why doesn't Gyruss have auto fire? I get tired of pounding on that fire button constantly, it seems like it should play more like Tempest than Galaga...
 
Love my Gyruss. It has a black joystick, fyi.

It was one of the first games I got (along with MB and SD).
 
I have a cocktail and would never part with it except for an upright in nice shape. Gyruss has always been one of my favorites since it first came out.

Mine has the black top joysticks and I am sure they have never been swapped out. The one thing I am in need of is a decent scan of the instruction cards on the cocktail. Mine had no glass when I found it and I have a great scan of the artwork pieces but need the instructions.
 
My Gyruss Story

I love Gyruss and it's helped me get my kids into the hobby. They love it too. I'm even looking into upgrading the one I currently own.

Bought Gyruss off of e-bay and it was completely misrepresented. Restored what I could but too much water damage (which was denied about having). Well, it looks good and plays well but the side art is killer to match.

My gameroom will never be without a Gyruss. The sound and joystick aren't the same on 60-n-1.

NOTE: The opening on the monitor insert should be at the bottom and not the top. (I'm sure this will start another debate but reference the original game flyer on KLOV) Sure which someone would recreate those inserts. Mines warped
 
I love my Gyruss! I played the hell out of it back in the day, so I HAD to have one! Got it from Pat D. awhile back, but haven't managed to get it into the house yet.

Here's an idea to show Gyruss some love and get him inside. Throw out one of those Tempest. Who needs two anyways???

Any just because I'm a nice guy, I'll help you get rid of that extra Tempest too. ;)

Thanks Karl. It is appreciated... Speaking of a 19" and ground level. I have 2 games in Spokane I need picked up. You up for it? :D

I first met Gyruss in a crowded CAX last year, didn't know anything about it but there wasn't a line so I walked up and said hello. She was very out going and right away I knew it was love at first site. I probably played it for at LEAST an hour straight, one day I will pick one up, but until then I will cherish the memories we made together that year in San Jose.
 
I am still looking for one!!!!!! I have a line on one in So Cal but its a long haul to get it...($250)..... still working on it!


BTW, it has been 20 years....sometimes when its quite I can still here the music......love this game!

Yeah, that is a nice machine you got. I wouldn't want to let it go.

Gyruss is one of my favorites. I'm still restoring mine and once again failed to get it painted before the weather got bad.
This thread actually just talked me out of buying an xx in 1 board ...are all the games bad like you guys described Gyruss?

Thanks again Karl, Glad you made it back over the pass safe. Can't wait to see some pictures of the machine your picking up later today.

Too bad you could not stay and play arcades longer. But at least you didnt break my Missile Command High score. The last time it took me a month to regain the top spot;)

Gyruss is one of the games I still have on my would like to find list. Even though I really don't have the room I could squeeze it in or let something go if I had to. It's my younger Brothers favorite game( He's a real child of the 80's, 12 years my Jr.) and I always loved it too. I just haven't found one around here in southeast Virginia. I did just get a 60 in 1, haven't tried it yet but I know it wont be the same as a dedicated one. I still have hope of finding one some day. I do have a supposedly working board set, new marquee and new repo control panel overlay so maybe one day I'll get lucky.
