Well I am. Need to so I can work on games this winter. If you are in the area, stop on by. :)

If I am gone that means I needed to run to Home Depot again. :( :p

Me too, though most of it is done already... just have to finish up the ceiling.

Fiberglass, blow in cellulose, or foam? I did fiberglass, and hated every minute of it...but it's the cheapest.

he is prob doibg blown in type
home depot has a special if you buy so much you get the rental of the machine for free

Nope, fiberglass. Need to get 5 more rolls and the drywall now. I have half done, but the other half is blocked by games. :p

Looks like I will get one side done, move all the games and then do the other side. :001_ssuprised:

I removed the insulation from my garage along with the drywall. It became a giant habitrail for mice and chipmunks. My garage smelled like the inside of a nasty infested cabinet. Once I had all that out and aired the place a bit, it smelled so much better. Just fair warning, take precautions.

I fixed some vapour barrier and some insulation last weekend that were taken out when a new garage door was installed on my shop earlier this year. Tuck tape and a stapler, voila fixed!

Need a new heater though, ordered one at work that's somewhere on a truck in transit. 30a/240v 4800w 16,000 BTU. Wired up a digital thermostat so I can set a heating schedule so I'm not keeping the place warm when I'm not home :)

im insulating my basement - does that count?! LOL!
Ive probably got 60% of all my walls completed in the arcade. I just got to get motivated enough to finish wallboarding. I hate installing drywall by myself. It makes lifting the 4x8 sheets fun!! LOL!

My garage was insulated by the builder, but I have two of those aluminum doors that I need to get the foam inserts for. Of course I can't find a place that sells them around here... One of these days I will break down and order some online.

i might!! mines about half done, but been busy with other stuff...

working on my mini chopper and my soda fountian today... i already put my furnace on out there so even though im wasting my heat with one wall insulated at least im sitll warm heh..

Ok first wall board is up and have to grill for dinner.

Did you guys place your 4 x 8 sheets horizontal or vertical for the 8' length?

Man, I've argued that with construction people before. None of them could give me a good reason to hang horizontal. Since my old basement was just shy of 8' it sure seemed like a logical idea to cut ~3 inches off the ends and stand it up and hang it. Then I had a vertical seem every 4 feet with no end joints together, just the tapered ones.

Mechanical strength?

Would not help in a basement so either way would be ok in my book. Besides, it's your house.

Maybe the Vertical joints are more prone to cracking from shifting foundations than horizontal? Or maybe they put blocking between the studs at 4 ft, and gives them another nailing edge?
Don't know if either of those would make a difference or not, I think it comes down to personal preference. I guess it also allows the crew to be sloppier with building the walls, as they only have to be perfectly accurate every 96" vs 48", but if that was the reason they do it, I don't think I'd want to be working with those guys :D
Personally, I've always done vertical, though I am thinking about going horizontal for the garage...

I am going horizontal on mine - personally its easier handling for me. And if you put the bottom sheet up, you can mark where the studs are and continue the lines easier - then trying to stud find or measure each one.
Again, to each his own.

Horizontal and staggered is less prone to buckle or show seams over time.

Thanks - thats the only reason I've heard - sounds good to me. Its probably one of those "just do it this way because its right" things and most of the current generation didn't question it.

Well one side is just about done. Need to finish up on Monday as tonight is the Bears game. I think I will wear shorts again to the game because it is like 65 degrees here!
