I might have a chance to pick one of these up.

Thoughts on this pin? I have no time on this game, but heard it was pretty gootd for a Stern title.

Would like thoughts from those who own it and/or have some real time on it. Does it "flow"? Stop and go? How about the sounds?

I don't typically buy something without playing it first, but this gould be a first, LOL

Do it !

Awesome game. A definite keeper for me.

Lots of flow (...except Path of the Dead ).

One of the deepest rulesets ever
(...trumped only by TSPP )

Enjoy the 30 pages of reading...

If you're a fan of the movies, the game takes-on even more significance
as alot of call shots come directly from quotes in the movie,
and indeed the ruleset follows the plot of the movies exceptionally well
(all modes and multi-balls are story-lines from the movie )

The only "complaint" by some, is a very long ball time.
A good game can often last over 20 minutes.
I once played a 40 minute game.

This game is often in high-demand and keeps it's value well,
so if you can get one, do it.
(..and if you don't like it, you'll have no problems selling it...)

Cheers,
Steph

There was one at the Q-Mart...might still be there for you to check out.

Thanks Mark - I have not been there in a while. Maybe a trip is in order :)

Thanks Steph. You know, and I probably will get flamed for this, I have NEVER seen a LOTR movie. Crazy huh? I will read over the link you sent. I think it LOOKS like a fun game.

Does anyone know if Stern finished the code for this machine?

Chris

I own a LOTR LE, which I bought because I loved the game so much. It is without a doubt one of the best Stern titles out there, and is actually the one machine that got me into pinball collecting. While I never like to say "never", this machine will never leave my collection. It's also my wifes favorite game in my collection.

I also know several pinball collectors that will never sell this title out of their collection... that alone should tell you something about how good it is IMO.

As far as flow, I think you are looking too deep into this.. it flows great and matches the gameplay and ruleset perfectly. It does tend to have longer ball times than most titles and it does have a slight amount of "stop and go", but it can be bypassed by hitting the flipper buttons (with the exception of the "path of the dead", but that's not a big deal).

I think once you have the machine and have put some plays on it, watching the movies will help you appreciate the title more.. I do this with all of the titles I own where I haven't seen the movie, including the really bad movies (Bram Stokers Dracula, The shadow to name a few). The good news is that the LOTR series is awesome.. if you like that kind of movie of course. I personally love the series and I couldn't imagine anyone who doesn't like a good sci-fi flick not liking it.

Good luck! You can't lose with a LOTR machine in your collection!!

Pretty much my sentiments too. Can't go wrong with this one. (Although I've owned pinball machines for a long time.) I fell in love with LOTR about 6 years ago when I played it at PAPA. Bought the LE (wanted a new one as a keeper)--first (and still only) NIB I ever paid full price for.

As others note, the game has great flow and a really cool variety of shots. Rules are killer and really draw you into the game. (I think the rules are far more coherent and draw you in more as compared to TSPP, the other 'deep' game often compared to.) Great home game--lots of new things to discover and many goals to continue to aspire to!

I played the emulator table for about 30 min last night. Have played the real one at local arcade a LOT. Never got to There and Back Again or Valinor, but have completed Destroy the Ring a few times, both on the real thing and emulator. This one's my grail as well, but I just can't get the 4k to find one so it will be a looong while before I can justify it. Sucks, because they're only going to get more and more beat as time goes on. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd do my damndest to find one still in the box.

Q-mart:) Heheh I love that place. The fudge is the best there.

They still have the record shop that sells albums before they are
officially released? Its was in the middle as I recall. I've spent a
bunch of time there.

Used to go there for crystals during a brief hippiy phase in college.

Yes......I believe the record store is still there...they moved into a bigger store a few years back though. Other than that....the place is probably the same as you remember it...lots of junk, dirtbags, and a few arcade games!

Good table, definitely one of the best Stern has made, good design and very challenging, deep ruleset. The shots aren't extremely interesting, but they're difficult enough to keep playing, and the game overall flows very well.

Definitely a keeper in my collection. The rules aren't hard to understand, but the game is deep. I find myself playing 45mins to an hour per game so it's obviously not as punishing as some of the other top 5 or 10 games.

i have owned LOTR for just a few months. I love it and do not plan on getting rid of it any time soon. Games can get long on it but i never lose interest. You shouldnt regret buying it and if you do, people are always looking for one.

Like me. =Þ

I've had mine for a few years now and still enjoy it. The game times can be long, but with the amount there is to do in the game, you need that much time. I'm not that great of a player so sometimes games are long, other times I feel like I just started when I see the match sequence.

Yeah this is one of my keepers as well, and IMHO one of the best Sterns. Sounds/music is great. Add a subwoofer and it gets even better. Tis my only NIB pin, and my wife and I absolutely love it. My daughter (4) likes to watch me play, but she prefers to play demolition man over LOTR, since she like the upright handles. but she is always telling me to go play lord of the rings and she'll watch. Echoing from above, yeah sometimes games are long and sometimes they are dead short for me, LOL but I am not that good at pinball (despite owning them..)

Yeah, just to second what everyone else has said.

Very deep ruleset, lots of shots to go for. Cool videos and a nice lightshow as well.

I put LEDs in a friends and it was really cool. Fun pinball to mod as well.

If you get the chance, buy one! It's not just that these can cost 4K+, but also that its tough to find someone selling theirs.

The first movie bored me to tears, and I hadn't seen the other 2 ...then I started playing LOTR pinball as I thought it was really cool looking. I fell in love with the game, the music, the sounds, the adventure....everything about it. I then watched all 3 movies (extended editions) and like them now because they remind me of the game...hehe.

The code is absolutely finished. Just get 10.0 ROM if your game has anything earlier.
