Who else hates it when something gets posted at a good price around midnight with a phone #?? You notice the listing around midnight and your sitting there like fuck you want to call but you don't want to be the douchebag that calls and wakes them up. So you email thinking their a night owl and get no reply. Next day you call and some ***hole got it @ 7am cause your a lazy SOB and slept in or have work.

I completely agree with you. Just a couple of weeks ago a Space Invaders machine got posted for like $50.00, however it was posted at 11:30pm on Sunday Night, there was no way I was going to call that late.. I called first thing Monday morning, however someone else called the night before..

It really sucks...

I hate:

- CL posts without phone numbers
- CL posts that say "late calls OK" and then yell at you when you call them at 9pm. (!!!!)
- CL posts for items at such a good price, it's just too good. And then they want you to western union $$ to them. Yeah, sure.
- CL posts that say "paypal only"... uh, hello??

Actually, I just hate Craig and his so-called list!

I'm usually not bothered if a listing is posted late. Usually I figure that ups my odds of getting the item since there are most likely less people looking if it's really late. The only time I was really bummed on a CL ad was the time someone local posted a game I wanted for $100 and clearly stated in the ad please do not call after 9pm. Problem was the ad posted around 9:30. I should have called since I caught it right at 9:30 as it had just posted. Not wanting to be rude I waited until early the next morning. Basically another local collector got it by calling that night after 9. So I was kind of bummed that I missed out on a game I wanted for being courteous and respecting the sellers wishes. I assume the seller thought there wouldn't be that much interest especially on the first night and posting after 9 with a request to not call after 9 was no big deal. In this case it kinda pissed me off though.

On the topic of stupid CraigsList posts, I love it how so many of them say "No scammers, please!".

First, they think that scammers actually read their posts, as opposed running a bot or a program that generates emails. And second that they would read their request and put them on some sort of do not contact list.

I saw that Space Invader post, it was posted close to 1am I think.

10pm, Ok Ill call. Midnight. Not to sure about that. Maybe Im just a pussy and should nut up and just call. Id be pissed if someone called me that late. But then again I wouldnt make a post @ midnight either.

Well, let's add to the list:

1) People who you need to e-mail, but they don't check their e-mails for 3-4 days.

2) People who post, but then never answer your e-mail - even to just say "Sorry, it's been sold."

3) People who post at 10 in the morning when most people are at work and only the lazy-ass desk-job fockers get a chance to answer (or those bastiches who have RSS feeds to their cell phones), and actual hard-working folks who can't sit on the computer all day miss out.

4) people who sell, but then never pull or update the ad, so you respond to see if it's still available, and never get an answer...

F that. If they post late, they should expect some late calls. Besides, what do you have to lose? Who cares if you piss off some random person that you'll never see again?

Edit: Also, I don't think it's fair at all to assume that just because someone works at a desk that their a lazy ass doing no work. I know plenty of people who work their asses off at a desk. Who wouldn't rather work inside, sitting down if they had the choice. Just because you don't it's not fair to say that everyone who does is lazy.

Add more to the list (not always arcade related, but just general CL rants)...

Curb alerts - You know, when your either at work and/or miles away, never any contact info, just "at the curb, no holding, come and get it". I'm not wasting my time, gas & safety on a slim "chance" that it might still be there.

No price or $1 listings - more abuse of the service, just another way to either bait and switch and/or make sure your item is seen in search even if its out of the search range. Most of the time these are the sellers who think they are sitting on gold too. I usually tell them Ill take it for the listed price and see what they come back with.

To comment on late night calling, I wouldnt do it. Someone might post just before bedtime, or there might be other family members asleep during the post. Just email, call first thing in the morning and keep your fingers crossed.

Here is one from tonight. A guy posts a pinball machine on craigslist for $100.00 (1966 machine).. I respond within 3 minutes of it being posted via email (No phone number given).

About 2 hours later I receive the below email.

"Have 7 other offers. I will take highest offer. Please send offer. Unit can be picked up anytime tomorrow. Thank you for your interest."

Why even bother advertising a price if you aren't going to accept/honor it..

Chris

The etiquette of CL is that there is no etiquette. No honor,no trust,no "doing the right thing".....throw all that stuff out the window.

I expect people to be at their worst on CL.With that said,if you want a game bad enough you will endure all of that crap and wade through the cesspool that is CL to get it.

i've actually had pretty good luck with CL and have rarely been dicked around. any time i see an ad i figure there's a good chance someone has already responded and i set my expectations accordingly. if i don't get the item or don't get a response i don't let it get to me; it's not like anything i'm buying on CL is a matter of life or death.

just last week i responded to an ad about 3 hours after it was posted for a $100 set of nearly-new tires mounted on nice rims that would fit my Volvo. considering the price i couldn't believe that they were still available. not only did the seller call me back first thing the next morning, but he held the tires for me until the next day when we could meet up. he mentioned when i picked them up that he was surprised at the great amount of interest but he kept his word and i got a nice set of winter tires.

I went out drinking with some buddies and came home hammered around 3:30 one night, got pissed about that and called around 25 to 30 people that had their cars listed for one dollar telling them that was a great price and could I come get it right then.

Some of those conversations were awesome. :)

What's neat is when I update my listing with "taken. No longer available. Thanks!" and get a couple calls the next day from people bitching at me about how they saw the ad and how I am purposely misleading people and wasting their time. It's even neater when the item in question was being offered for free.

Random strangers suck. Keep that in mind when you're diving head first into CL.
