Who else doesn't look at pictures on this site if they are thumbnails?

I know how to add the IMG tags and do that when embeding the pic in the post. However, is there a way to set the size (height and width)?

I can certainly edit the pictures to the size I want and upload them, but it would be nice to have a sizing option (like other forums) to size them so they don't blow out the viewing area like some people do with huge pics.

vBulletin ... the software this site uses ... does not support a WIDTH tag stock. There are mods that add this functionality, perhaps McLemore would consider installing one?

Actually the sideways picture thing I've found is related to the size of the image. It the image being uploaded is larger than 1280x1024 and in portrait mode, I've found the site, actually automatically rotates it to landscape. Don't ask me why?

I try to host pictures as much as possible and embed them when posting pics, especially with for sale threads. But like many have mentioned, there are downsides to that sometimes too. Like what happens when you remove or clean up those hosted pictures? I've had to do that before, photobucket only gives you so much space. You do end up with a thread full of dead broken links.

And Tapatalk I think too is a the big game changer to all this. I'm not a fan of tapatalk...it's just too hard for me to follow anything using it. But I get the impression I'm kinda in the minority on that. I've got a buddy here, hgloth who *LOVES* tapatalk. And one of the best features he loves about it is being able to access his photos on his phone and easily attach them to any post.

So while the sideways pic thing is super silly I agree...I've learned its not always intentional or someone just not knowing how to hold a phone.

If I'm interested in the thread I'll look at the pictures however they are posted. Now thumbnails sucks in Windows 7 because I have to hit the thumbnail, close it, and reopen it to see the picture, but in Windows 10 and on my Android tablet it works fine.

Hmmm. On my home computer I always use Chrome and didn't have issues with windows 7, nor with Windows 10 when I upgraded.

My work computer, where I'm typing this from (multi-tasking they call it?), it's a Windows 7 Enterprise build and I always wondered why the thumbnails didn't work. Never knew I just needed to close it and re-open it and the image would appear. Nice.

I think what pisses me off more than anything else is not having to make an effort of looking at pictures. Its the sheer amount of people in this hobby and who own games that just do not know how to even *take* a picture!!!

Like why is every picture you get on CL....foggy, blurry and looks like it was taken with a pocket camera from the early 90's?

And why is so difficult to even get a picture sometimes from anyone? I think it's safe to say, the majority of the folks walking around are carrying a camera with them at all times in their phones. Is it really that difficult for you to raise your arm, hold it steady and take a picture of something?

And while I'm blowing a gasket...LOL. I love when guys want to hit you up for a "trade" on something and you have a butt load of pictures of your sh!t and then you go, sure can I see what you have? And they give you the laundry list of excuses of why they can't give you a pic, but still want to know if your interested in the trade?

Sorry...rant over. :)

Think about it for a minute. You are too lazy to bother with making a single mouse click to view a thumbnail image...then you wonder why others are too bothered to take all the steps you are asking for to embed photos? .

I want other people to put some effort into it. They took the time to restore the machine. Take an hour to take good pictures and size them and embed them.

I'm not to lazy to click the links. I don't do it because the poster didn't even go through the effort to make their post worth looking at. I move on to another thread where people put more effort into it. :)

Instead of bitching about the thumbnails point us idiots in the right direction with how to post larger pics.

I know how to do it if I'm posting an image from the internet but I don't know how to do it from my phone...

I never post from my phone, so no idea. But I imagine Google has quite a bit to say on the matter :D

The major issue is that if you host the pictures on another site, and that site goes dead or your account is closed, or you delete the picture, that image is lost forever. Then, perhaps four or five years down the line someone is doing the right thing and searching before posting a new thread, if they open up the restoration thread or troubleshooting thread there are zero pictures available.

So as far as I'm concerned, folks definitely need to be attaching pictures to the thread otherwise they may get lost forever. It is INSANELY frustrating to be looking for something only to find out that the thread you thought would help you out is full of missing pictures and broken URLs.

Agreed. The fluke 6800 to 6502 pod conversion thread is a prime example. The OP in that thread chose to illustrate which traces to cut in an image that now has a dead link!

Some people actually take the time to crop images solely so they can upload them so they'll be saved for posterity. When people just post links to flickr/photobuckt, etc. they usually disappear over time. For example all those awesome fizgig pics were gone instantly across dozens and dozens of threads with minimal clicks in his hosting service, versus having to come here and modify individual posts one by one.

Just say'n ;)

Fiz would have deleted all those posts if he had to. He was pissed.

People could attach them here and still embed them. It's not that hard as was shown a few posts back.

I look at all the pictures.. small, large, upside down, blurry, black and white etc.I see a pic, in click it... I don't see a problem. Id rather have the picture on its side, you can see more detail to the pic..

i don't use external image hosting sites (except my computer for temporary stuff) and don't think clicking the thumnail is so bad (sometimes its better as the thread itself is easier to navigate, especially on a phone) but...

you can get the same effect by attaching it here, hitting "preview post", clicking the picture, copying the url, and embedding it directly

I edit my photos in photoshop so they appear the correct way because the install of this forum is outdated including the supported graphics processors. I could upload to my server or IMGUR but for posterity's sake, like others have pointed out, searching for something from 2004 that has photos on photobucket results in that shitty cat photo and not a helpful image. Better to upload it to the board's server. Linking images inline causes layout failures on mobile screens and smaller screen sizes on desktop (ie: my phone takes very high-res photos, they don't scale down when embedded).

Updates to the forum can rectify some of these issues but overall for posterity sake they should be uploaded to this server. Orientation information can be honored with some updates. Sell me your Warlords. Don't be lazy. :D

Just wondering.

If I'm looking at a thread, especially a restore thread, I won't even bother looking at the pictures if they are thumbnails and I have to click them to make them bigger.

Also I will definitely not click a pic if it's turned sideways.

Which begs the question, why can't some of you guys be bothered to turn your pics the right way before uploading them. And why not use a picture hosting site and embed the images with the
tags?

Anyway /rant...... off to work :)

I'll take thumbnails over 5 giant sized pics that are embedded, then quoted half a dozen times.

I used to save my photos to an external site, but gave that up once I came across older threads with broken image links.

I actually like thumbnails since it does give you a choice -- if you're curious enough, you'll click to see the photos, and if they don't interest you, you can keep reading -- no harm, no foul.

Hey old guy op. Get off my lawn.. Laughs.
Don't like it.. Don't click it.. Don't care if you do or not..

I won't post picture with an off site system. I been around too long and seen off site systems die off and the info is lost. I post pictures to inform others who follow me. I have learn about and have seen some pretty cool stuff.

FIZGIG, yes the same guy who offered me a beating the next time he saw me over the wrinkled star castle side art thing. The legacy he left is one of broken links. He should have left the links up so others could see what kind of talent he had in reproducing art work.

Imagine if technical stuff dispeared due to broken links. How many people would be stumbling around trying to fix these old CRTs or even attempt to swap out a tv tube into an Arcade CRT?

We all run across people we don't like but to deny info to others who collect after we flush our collections or pass away. It kind of sad. In a few generations, don't you want to help the handful of collectors who are silly enough to collect these old arcade machines? It one of the reasons why I am still here..

next step please?

I uploaded this thumbnail, now what? How do I embed it to make it bigger? What is the next step?

The next step is adding a 3rd and 4th level to the control panel for driving games and Ikari Warriors, THEN you hotlink the pick at 4300x3000 resolution so everyone has to scroll 4 directions to marvel at its glory.
