Well, had a tech come by to look at my dedicated two tigers sound board, checked all the connections, its getting the right voltage but still no sound.

Who do you guys recommend for board repairs?

Thanks,
Dan

I know of two, but each handles different games...

you might try bill's video service. he's in plainville mass. he was a service tech back in the day. nice guy and he knows what he's doing. his number is 1-508-695-8891 tell him mike in california sent you. good luck!!

I usually do research and try to muddle through, asking circuit theory help from those who do it all the time. it's been a long time since AF tech school (21 years now) and I wasn't doing it a lot during much of the time since then, so a lot of what I knew has faded. I usually don't have problems with voltages and functions, but I'm not always hip to signals and programming...

@ Tigers

The AI chips are suspect on those if it is both channels of sound missing. Did it go out all at once or did it lose one side, then the other?

My system:

1. Research the specific problem (learn to search RGVAC and these forums)
Lots of problems are documented and have common failures. Some require simply replacing a chip and/or socket, reflowing solder, bad connectors, etc. You'll have to determine what level you can repair. The more you can do (even shotgunning), the better.

2. Decide to find a replacement board or repair (often replacement boards are a cheaper way to go)

3. Learn who fixes what boards:
- There are several guys here who can fix the common ones (Pacs, Asteroids, Centipede, etc.)
- Andre is good with Williams boards
- I think there's someone who works on the older B/W stuff around here
- It's hard to find people to work on (Atari System 1/2 stuff, Jamma, MCR stuff)

4. Keep non-working stuff and move on to other projects

Of the two I know, one does Pac-Man (riptor), the other Asteroids (road.runner).

I work on the common items... Pac/Ms/Jr/Super/Plus, Galaga, Neo Geo, Centipede, DK/JR/3 and Galaxian. I also will phoenix suicided games such as Sega Shinobi and Capcom (pre-CPS1, CPS1, CPS1.5, and CPS2) games.

And uncommon ones: Phoenix/Pleaids, Bubble Bobble, Double Dragon, Sega NAOMI

And most other JAMMA boards. Feel free to ping me or check my repair logs to see if a board you have is something I'd work on.

What I don't work on: Vector boards, older Williams games, and other older games that I can't connect to my testbed. I also DO NOT touch CPS3 game carts. They are too dang finicky and are a financial risk as they suicide if you look at them wrong!

With that said, I'll be adding in capabilites to work on the old B&W games as I love challenges and troubleshooting digital logic. It'll require me getting some transformers that can be used for power and building adapters to hook 'em into the testbed I have.
