Who can repair Galaga 88 and Dragon Spirit PCB's?

I have one of each and a friend of mine has 2 or 3 Galaga 88's. I also have 2 Sky Sharks and a Nastar Warrior.

They don't have any. Just repair service. I emailed them a few days ago but I haven't heard back yet. Maybe this week after they get back from the Christmas holiday? I was looking to see if anyone here could do it? Maybe save a few bucks or even find someone local to my area (Phx).

He may not have boards, but offers a repair service. If you can't find someone here, there is always Eldorado.

Somethings been burned out. I have a monitor that did something weird, It shorted out or something after it warms up. I was playing Galaga 88 for awhile after hooking it up in a cab. shut it down to go take care of something for maybe 30 min. Came back turned it on again and the screen didn't come up right away. Then some white appeared but the game didn't. I thought the power supply went bad. Switched it out with another but the same thing happened. Play for awhile and then a partially white pic later??? But, the board was damaged someplace. No game response at all in any cab. I don't think it's something major but then again I don't know how to work on or repair boards. I can change chips on a board but sadly that's about all. I don't have the equipment or knowledge to do repairs on boards.

I really wish I could do PCB repairs. Find an electronics class or something but my job doesn't allow me the opportunity or the time.

I don't see anything on the PCB that's burnt bad but the cap that lays on it's side nears s6 I think it was has a minor black mark on the bottom end. It may be the problem? Or one of the smaller caps or even some resistors I just don't know?

I have a Galaga 88 here that is just mind boggling...

Anyone have a READABLE schematic?

Glad I'm not alone in this, So to speak. Another member here I know has 2 or 3 of them he can't fix either. So just how many others have a Galaga 88 that's down for the count?
We need to find someone that's good with repairs on this one. I really like Galaga 88 I would hate to loose it because nobody can fix it....

What I'm noticing is...you cant fix one without another. Currently using a Pacmania cpu board with the Galaga ROM board to get that board sorted out...then onto the cpu board.

Biggest problem with the Namco 'System 1' boardset is that if the customs go bad there's no way repair it other than swap with known working ones from another board. I've got a few dead CPU boards and fixed a number of them over the years.

For the ones that weren't custom IC swaps, from my notes, the fast SRAM ( 70ns ) on the CPU board seem to be a weak point, plus the CPUs and 2816 EEPROM are other things to checked. The other problem I've seen typically go wrong are the interboard connectors. They are not actually soldered but are press fit friction connection, if the board has been bashed or mishandled at some point they are a first to check for visible damage.

Also had a couple with broken traces on the ROM board, which can flex a fair amount.

James,

Which customs have you seen go bad? I've only ever run across 2 truly bad customs out of all the Galaga boards I've fixed and out of all the Namco customs I've fixed broken pins on.

I just wondered if there was a weak spot with one of the customs.

For classic Galaga boardsets I've seen two cases of every custom bad. Typically if the power supply goes nuts and dumps something ungodly into the board, one of those was a confirmed PSU fail. Seriously, everything dead, that is worst case. Most of the time it's been the rot on the legs. But from notes it's been random across Galaga, Bosco and Xevious, 02's, 00's, 07's, 08's.

With the system 1 boards I don't have the numbers to hand, it's been the 64 pin custom right in the middle of the CPU board, the 44 pin on the bottom left and I didn't write it down but I am 99% certain one time it was the soldered on QFP of the ROM board.

Well, The good news is all the ROM's are ok to my Galaga 88. I have a Pacmania and I pulled the ROM's and installed the G88 ROM's. It works just fine! I tried installing the smaller PCB from Pacmania to the G88 main board but all I got was a light blue screen.

On another note, I just bought a Pacman's Arcade Party Kit (Boards, wire harness and power supply from Nixs. It has Dragon Spirit, Galaga 88 and Pacmania plus 10 more. So if all else fails and I can't get these boards fixed I can still play them on this Namco Multi board.
