I always buy first, get the part, and then found out I could have gotten the thing cheaper elsewhere so..................... who can tell me the best source for a Switcher for my Moon Patrol?

Thanks in advance!

Arcade shop has a switcher conversion kit:

Look under Power Supplies/Power Supply Kits: http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm

Yep thx for that. That was my initial plan but I just wanted to make sure after the fact that someone didn't come back and say 'aw man you should have talked to Dokert or Spaeth or just done x y z'

Anyone have experience with the Arcadeshop one? I have a rebuilt linear in my Defender, but always have that fear of it running amok and eating my (finally) perfectly working machine.

I've used original ps, arcadeshop switchers, and Speath's ATX adapter with ATX.

Arcadeshops is fine, just don't like that you have to use/buy their switcher. If you don't use their model then it's quite the pain in the ass squeezing the adaptor into it.

Guess I'm partial to Speath's ATX adapters. As they are well made, have an led on them so you know they are on.. Also it's easy and cheap to source ATX ps.. Most you can pull from an old pc or buy a new one for less than $40. Just need to make sure it has -5 and -12 for most williams, except moon patrol.

If you want one of Marks adapters and a ps, pm me.. I have a few available.

Would you say using old ATX power supplies is a better solution than new el cheapo chinese arcade power supplies?

Just don't follow the directions of tapping on the isolation side of the transformer to power the switcher if you go on the arcadeshop side of things.

I'd say spend the cash and buy a new ATX, actually just saw some for $25-30..
But if your cheap, sure.. Use an old one.

Doesn't AS charge $25-35 for the switcher that you have to use with their adapter?

All depends what your comfortable using or how cheap ya wanna be :)

Any switcher in Moon Patrol will work fine. ATX power supplies don't normally last for more than a couple of years at best.

Arcadeshop version is ok, but they have been having quality issues with their adapter board. It will lose connection to the +5vdc and your game will not boot up.

If the OP contacts me directly, I will prototype a low cost plug and play solution for him to use with a standard switching power supply.

Not to take biz from you.. But if you flip arcade shops addapter over it can be used in a standard switcher.. Just did it today, as I had one laying around.

I had issues with the arcadeshop one not making contact to the supply, I ended up soldering the thing to the power supply! Has been solid ever since. I do think I was using a supply that didn't come with it, if I remember right.

Sounds exactly like the problem I am thinking of Jon.

Just a friendly reminder that I'm still hoping to hear the details about this :D
