Finally finished "shopping" the Whirlwind... not sure if I really dig that term or not, but she sure does look nice...

Much better than what she looked like (which still wasn't all TOO bad)...

Very nice, Frizz. Looks like your elbow grease added a good $300 in value to that machine. It's a fun game, and I'm happy to see it all cleaned up and shiny.

Nicee...

Nice!! reminds me of the local arcade when they got whirlwind in!
Played my share of that machine!
GO AWAY!.. Funny vocals on it too

Looks great! Whirlwind is an awesome game, I miss mine!

A great game indeed. And when it sits next to Earthshaker, a very nice pair of Lawler pins. I like when both are being played that very rare moment when both games yell oooohh jackpot (something like that)

Wow, that looks amazing! I finally got a chance to play Whirlwind for the first time at CAX, and really enjoyed it. The owner replaced the fan on the back box with some sort of hurricane machine. 75mph wind to the face!

Thanks guys... some notes...

(1) The cliffy cellar hole protectors rock and went on nice and easy.

(2) The Cliffy ramp protector took some work to get to fit and overall I was unimpressed with the final fitting... but it stays as it took so damn long to get on "just right".

(3) The colored "post" things were a bit of a waste of dough. They weren't much though. My "whirlwind" set came with 4 blues, a red and a green. I installed the 4 blues but I only can see one more post where the ramps meet in the middle. I was gunna stick the red one there but it was being difficult (taking it off) so I blew it off and left the black one on there. For the life of me I have no idea where the 6th one is supposed to go.

(4) Mylar can be a savior and a pain in the ass... just sayin'.

This has to be one of the easiest tables I've ever installed Cliffys on. The Cliffy post rubbers are good for one reason IMHO. You can clean them off easily. Otherwise they are a harder rubber and a person loses the original "bounce" that you'd otherwise have.

Cleaning that table is also a cakewalk which I also love about it. Ramps are gravy to remove and so is the wiring to them. I think I spent about 2 hours redoing mine ... luckily has the DP playfield.

Now for the negative - I think the game play gets old REALLY freaking quick though. I actually hit the Air Raid last night (purely by accident) and that was awesome!

This was my 2nd shop job. I have about 6-7 hours in to it I think...

The cliffy ramp protector didn't fit right. The screw hole was too far "in" and required a lot of tweaking to get the screw in. After installation the back side still sticks out a bit causing the ball to bouce a little if it goes up the ramp but doesn't quite make it and comes back out.

I also added a plastic protector kit... but ended up with 3 rectangle pieces I have absolutely no idea where they go...

Umm I had the exact same experience with my ramp protector. Really required me to muscle the protector in place so I could drop the screw in. And because of this it causes the protector to bow in a tad as well. All I can say is make sure that ramp flap isn;t tightened down too much otherwise the ball hits the ramp and jumps losing momentum. Just make sure the ramp flat has no curve in. And FWIW - that ramp shot is a real bugger to hit anyway.
Oh yeah - almost forgot to mention the shop job looks good.

Thanks... I'm getting better at that shot but yea, it's a bit of a bitch. Especially during multiball when it's a million pointer and you're having to watch the other 2 balls.

Nice looking Whirlwind! It's been on and off my want list for sometime now. Played it a bunch at CAX this year and finally decided I need one. Kinda sucks for me though because just a month or two ago, Whirlwinds were on craigslist all day long here. Now I can't find any. Go figure! lol

I just put the cliffy hole protectors on today, and I thought the right one went on fairly easy, but the left one was a bit more of a pain in the ass. I haven't attempted the ramp protector yet.

One of you guys care to give me a close up of the ramp protector installed so I can get a feel for what it's going to look like?

You have pins now?

The ramp protector I agree is a bit of pain, but still less work than the ramp protectors for FH; four total and then there's the pair for diverter!

Let me know if you need a pic of the ramp protector close up as I'll be playing it tonight.
