So I've got a nice Star Wars. Not perfect but clean and plays great and has a very nice WG 6100 monitor in it.

Now I picked up this second SW for a friend and it has an Amplifone monitor but the cabinet isn't as nice. It still looks relatively clean but there are screws going all along the back and top on one side like the cabinet had some damage and had to be screwed back together.

I was considering offering to trade with him so that I can have the Amp. But the cabinet kinda bugs me. My plan is to get the monitor going either way.

What would you do? (Assuming you like SW and it would be a keeper)

I don't know much about star wars but couldn't you simply swap the monitors in the games? That way the nicer cab would have the amp in it. Your friend should still be happy as he didn't have a star wars to begin with and was gonna end up with the lesser cab any how.

Swap the amp parts into the better star wars. If I only had the choice described in the topic, I would keep the amp setup. I play my games instead of look at them :)

Yeah I thought about swapping them out also. I haven't looked to closely yet but it seems like it would be a fairly difficult swap since the brackets are all different and the boards are mounted separately etc.

Has anyone actually done this that can describe how difficult it was? I looked around for a thread on that process but couldn't find anything.

Unless all the original blocking was ripped out, everything you need to mount an amp in the cabinet should still be there.

Oh, so these never came with WG's? They were all retrofits? In that case, I'll pull out my other game and look. I don't remember seeing the blocking for the extra boards in there but I wasn't looking for them either. I haven't had to look in the cab in a while.

Agree with Chris here...I did this very swap out on my HUO Star Wars that came with a WG6100 originally. The Amp is much nicer and was very easy to install...it just takes a little time to get the custom SW molding and woodwork removed to take out the WG6100 and then pop in the Amp tube. But it all comes out without too much trouble...

Just make sure you replace the infamous red flyback if this hasn't been done already :D ...

Pull the Amplifone board$ out and $end them to me, then put them in the nicer cab when they get back. Live happily ever after.

Seriously, swapping the monitors is the easy part. You have to take in consideration what monitor works, what one doesn't and do you have the ability and or money to get it working. The Star Wars with a dead amp will potentially sell for as much or more than the other one will working. That said, The amplifone is better, but only if it's working or you can get it working.

How much do you charge for that service by the way? I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to focus on it yet but it is missing the B+ for sure. Other voltages on that connector were good.

$175 per board or $325 for both including parts, labor, return shipping.

Well I'm going to have to think long and hard about that one. I'm sure it's worth every penny but you can feed a lot of jawas for that.

I did take a look in my cabinet and the original mounting brackets are still in there. Yay. I think I'll get the monitor working first off and then look at doing a bidirectional transplant.

I went ahead and swapped the Amplifone into the game I'm keeping and, as described, it was a piece of cake to swap them. Thanks for the recommendation guys!
