I'am in the process of building a cabinet and I need to know should I use a T.V. (with s-video connection CRT style) or a computer monitor? Also Control panels, I have seen X-Arcade style and there's one from Mike's arcade online that has the AGS control panel, which ones should I choose and why for my MAME cabinet? I e-mailed them at Mikes arcade asking them to give me the dimensions and the reply I got was "these control panels are for computers that sit on the desk, but we can custom make you a panel", they totally avoided my question. But I want to know will this work for my MAAME cab.? Thanks were doing the cutting of the wood here in about a week or so, I need to order things and figure what I'am going to use. Thanks. Jeff

There are alot of unknowns here that need answered. I will recommend that you go ask the question at byoac, because you will get a ton more relevant feedback there since their forum is geared around diy MAME cabs.

I'll answer a few though.
- TV if you have a cab calling for a 25-27" screen. PC monitor if you have a small cab that normall holds a 19" monitor. If TV, get a TV with component inputs - composite and S-video suck.

- The advice you got from X-arcade was sound. If you are building a cabinet, you for darn sure better make your own CP. It isn't hard, just do it. Get your controls from any vendor. groovygamegear.com and ultimarc are great. Both business runners are very active at byoac.

Bottom line, you need to do plenty more research before you cut your first piece of wood. Good luck and get your rear over to byoac. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

I use an arcade monitor, and it works great. If you are taking the time to build the cab, don't settle for a crappy prefab control panel. If you can build the cab, you will easily be able to build the cp.

Like everyone else has said, BYOAC will be able to help you a lot more. It wont take long for any MAME thread here to devolve into a MAME sucks argument. You will do better than most here though since you are building the cab instead of using an original.

Hmm, I didn't even look at the price. I wonder if it's not in print anymore. I got mine two years ago for $19.99. Look around and I'm sure it can be found cheaper.

Yeah, Saint (the guy who wrote the book) over at the BYOAC forums recently said it was now out of print.
