I am needing a repro VS Super Mario Bros marquee, but from the pictures Mamemarquees looks like doesn't have enough red in it. Almost tan looking, as if a faded marquee was scanned in.

Then I looked at ArcadeOverlays and their marquee looks bright red, almost pink.

I believe the original had a deeper red and brown in it, like the pictures below. Has anyone ordered either repro before? What do you think, or is there a better repro source for these? I don't want some terrible faded yellow marquee, and I can't afford a Ben Franklin for a NOS one.

If you're picky, you'd probably want to go with arcade overlays one as it seems richer in color. The mamerquees one looks almost like scan of a faded one. Although, I've never purchased from arcade overlays so I'm not familiar with the quality of their products. Then again, these could just be stock images they use and not images of the actual products. I've heard good things about mamemarquees as far as custom artwork. Maybe you can provide them with your own Vs. SMB image to repro?

Yeah, unfortunately, it seems all of the original SMB marquees (even the NOS ones) have some level of yellowing.

I've searched high and low, and can't find a high resolution file to have them custom print one for me. Maybe if someone here has a hi-res scan or jpg you can forward it to me.

Also, this guy on Craiglist http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/vgm/1631595141.html says he used a repro marquee and it looks like the ArcadeOverlays one, and in my opinion looks terrible lit up.

Someone on the neacf.com forums just picked up a repro smb marquee from mame marquees, and I gotta say it looks nice! Nothing like whats represented there, the colors were rich and very vibrant. Mame Marquees, all the way.

I guess thats what I was trying to find out, if someone has seen one of these or knows of another source. I don't know why Mamemarquees would have a misrepresented picture as I'm sure they know collectors can get picky. I guess I'll try them.

I just sold a NOS one to a newer member. It had a small corner of the decal missing (like 3/16 of an inch), but it was still on the original backing and was not faded out. There was also a small imperfection on one side where it must have been stored flat over a small pebble or something for many years, causing a small stretch bubble in the trans-lite material. Other than those 2 minor details it was nearly perfect. He may want to sell it, or at the very least scan it for you.

I appreciate the reply. Unfortunately due to my impatience I have placed an order with Mamemarquees this morning. I guess I'll see if I get a gem or a turkey.

the quality is good but the degree of detail in the crispness on the lines and color is not the same as the original.

There was 'crispness' in the lines on the original? I had a NOS one and never noticed. Looked like a pix-elated, rasterized piece of crap to me.

As in which of those 2 pics is closer to the original?

The bottom one.

It's what I based my first Bezel on:

Then I put a yellow layer at 15% opacity to try and mimic the fade most people have in theirs:
