WHICH Neo Multi cart HONESTLY, SERIOUSLY WORKS in a 4 or 6 slot???

I know for a FACT that the 100-in-1 only works on 1-slots. I have several 4 slots and a 6-slot board. I FINALLY got my hands on a nice dedicated 25" original neo geo cabinet, and I would like to know what multi cart will work "guaranteed". Any personal experience you are willing to share would be appreciated...

I just picked up a 100-1 multigame. I'm going to be looking for a neo geo machine. So, it will only work in 1-slots? Does it work in all 1-slots? I never heard that it didn't work in a 2-slot. I know it has issues with 4 and 6 slot motherboards.

Forget about those garbage carts and just put a cheap computer in there with MAME. You'll have a much better selection (ALL of the Neo games) and to make back some money you can sell your 4 slot.

I was hoping that someone on here would come out and say that the 138-in-1 works on a 4 or 6 slot, because I have heard SO MUCH conflicting information on this. The 138-in-1 is also more appealing, as it is my understanding that you can remove unwanted games from the list. I don't need 10 different hacked up versions of the king of fighters games!

I know that there is an extra connector or board that is used with the 138 in 1. Does it go in between your 4 slot motherboard, or is this not used? I already have a PC based emulator (with plenty of neo geo titles) in another machine, and an Xbox based emulator (again, with Neo Geo titles) in yet ANOTHER machine, and the emulations don't offer the same experience as the original hardware in the original cabinet. Thanks...

The 138-1 cart I have has a small Jamma connector that plugs into the Jamma connector on the MVS and then the Jamma Harness plugs into the other side. My understanding is that the card is what provides the menu.

From what I understand, any multicart will work in a 2, 4 or 6 slot. The issue sometimes is that you can only use that cart and no others when using it. They also can have reset issues with older 1-slots. It's all chinese crap and the only way to really know what will work is trial and error.

If this is true, I may want to pick one up. I have avoided these because of all the unwanted clones on there. Anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

This is true, but it comes at the price of having a stupid adapter sandwiched between the PCB and edge connector. It also needs to be "hacked" somehow to work in a multi-slot.

I have tried tried the 100 in 1 in 1,2,4, and 6 slots. It works fine. Best to put it in slot 1 so it boots to the select screen, but it worked in any slot.

I have a 138 in 1, but have not tried it in my 4 slot.

The only board I have found that the 100 in 1 did not worth with is the mv-1f (single slot with stereo/mono switch)

There you go. That is EXACTLY what I wanted to know. The previous responder who said that he had the 138-in-1 on a 4 slot said NOTHING about hacking the adapter. I must assume that this has to do with the fact that the 4 and 6 slots have different audio (stereo) outputs. Any links to a guide regarding the required mod would be greatly appreciated. Also, clarification as to whether or not the 4 slot will only work with JUST the 138-in-1 plugged in would also be appreciated.

The 100-in-1 that I have will only work in a 1 slot. It WILL boot up in a 4 slot, but it will glitch and reset shortly after you select a game. I have heard of other reports of this as well from other people, which is why I started this thread in the first place...

Did a google search, and came up with this info page:

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/super-138-in-1-neogeo-multigame-cartridge/prod_307.html

If you scroll to the bottom of the page is says:

Product Requirements:
* Requires SNK NEO GEO Single Slot Motherboard (Original Bios Only)
(2/4/6 Multislot Neo Geo Motherboards may not perform well with the 138-in-1 cart)

Sounds like a disclaimer to me, which is why a was wanting individual results/feedback...

I have it in slot 1 (with the JAMMA adapter that is the only slot it will go in). I didn't hack anything, not even sure what this hack is supposed to accomplish. I don't have any other carts, so I don't know how it would work with others in the MV4 at the same time. Even given all these reports from people using the carts, I'm not sure you can be 100% confident that your results will match. Unless you get the exact same cart and have the same hardware and bios revision... In other words.... YMMV

I used a 100in1 in a 2 slot, worked fine. If you had another game in the other slot though, when you reset out of the 100in1 cart, it switched you over to the next slot since that's how the motherboard works.

All you need to do is to jumper Pin 26 to both sides on the 138:1.

For some reason they did not connect the Select pin on the JAMMA harness bypass cart so it's a problem where you can't change slots now using the 138:1.

Small problem, easy fix.

Yes it works great and you can dissable the games you don't want. What point are they if you don't want a big "PLUS" font on on your screen after the logo.

From what I understand, some of these unlocked previously locked games so that's the only hack. That sounds actually good if you ask me. I just don't know which versions you would want this and which versions are bad/poor hacks.

When you say "jumper pin 36", do you mean on the jamma edge connector, or is this a jumper setting on the separate board that comes with the cartridge.

I am a little confused about the statement about slot 1 being the "only slot" that it would fit in becuase of the adapter. I thought that the adapter board actually plugged in between the jamma harness and the board itself. Are you saying that it goes between the cartridge and the slot???

Thanks...

I had the 138 in 1 and it worked fine in my four slot. I didn't like the in-line harness and I didn't like that I couldn't use my other slots without modding. Games also take a long time to boot and often the game is already running and started by the time it comes up. I sold it.

I picked up a 120 in 1 and it works fantastic with my four slot. I can switch between carts with no problem. The only thing I don't like is that the system reboots itself when getting back into the 120 in 1 menu or when you choose a new game. But, it's a small price to pay.

Does the 120 in 1 allow you to remove unwanted games also?

There are even original SNK carts that have resetting issues on older 1 slots. Most notably Rage of the Dragons.
