I always thought the MK cpo that had the silhouettes performing the moves was the correct one, but I just got a dedicated MK1 and it's got the cpo with the words "High punch," High kick," etc. It's in pretty rough shape and in some places I can see where it's peeled away to the bare metal... so does that mean the one with the words is the correct one to have?

The one with the words is the correct one. That's the one that came direct on the original dedicated cabinet from Midway.

Yeah the one with the words is correct.. Who came up with that silhouette Mk cpo? How did that ever get started??

I bought a nos cpo for my MK and it is the silhouette version. Here's a pic of another KLOver selling a dedicated panel with the silhouette version. I would say at the very least the silhouette version is a legit Midway creation. Some have said it was used on early runs of the machine and then Midway went with the text version.

Thats kinda weird.. Ive seen nos MK control panels that are text versions.. I wonder which one really was the first release...??

My opinion would be that when the operator ordered the game, they had the option between the word or the figure versions of the CP. We see more of the word version most likely because the operators thought they were better. I say this because MK2 had the same option. There were two versions of the CP for MK2, but only the conversion kit had the stick figures. The conversion kit came direct from Midway and you could order either the figure or the word version of it for the CP.

:)

Well we finally got an answer to this question of the mysterious control panel. I asked Ed Boon and he never responded so I asked John Tobias and he retweeted my question and a picture of his MK1 control panel that is sitting in his basement.... And he also had to add that it was in prestine condition!!! Heres the link....

He also tweeted me answering my question. This was his answer:

...except that it's de-laminating under the "M," the upper right corner has a piece missing and there's no lexan. Strange.

Yeah, he's a cool guy about replying. Boon is too high and mighty. Glad to see I ordered the correct overlay.

I thought MK1 never came with plastic/lexan originally, and the reason we all put it on there was to be cool. In fact... I thought I heard that in one of Zenomorph's Youtube videos. Maybe not.

Well, I've never seen ANY MK without the lexan. That's not to say that there weren't some that didn't have them, but the factory metal CP has the holes drilled through them for the security screws, so I can't explain the pic of John's CP.

It's possible because I know for a fact that the dedicated NBA Jam cabs didn't have lexan.

I have a dedicated MK1 and my overlay has no security screw holes for lexan either.

Well... Well... Wtf? You just have a big sticker slapped over the whole thing, covering the holes or something? I'll seriously never know everything there is to know about these MKs.

Nope my CP is the dedicated vinyl. It's got more of a plastic feel to it actually. It has a texture to it and everything.

Ya I'm thinking that it may have been an option when you made your order. Only makes sense to me! I'm not putting holes in mine either.
