I'm new to the whole ordering of individual capacitors for a cap kit so I would like some advice, which:

Series, Manufacturer, Tolerance, and Mounting Type should I get?

I already know values for it.

You buy according to this:

  • Capacitance rating
  • Mounting style: Radial (both leads out the same end), Axial (one lead out each end), Screw Terminal (think Big Blue), snap lock (think large primary caps in monitors or in large switching power supplies)
  • Voltage rating (same or above)
  • Temperature rating (85c or 105c, 105c is better)
  • Physical size (some caps are hard to find because of this)
  • Low/Ultra low ESR rating - really only needed for low voltage power supplies like on computer motherboards.
  • BRAND NAME!!! Stay away from cheap Chinese caps
  • COST. Some brands are crazy 'spensive

Data sheets are your friend!!!

Thanks guys.

Its for a Nieman 3M25SF monitor, just letting you all know.

Didn't realize they'd been around long enough to have a monitor warranting a cap kit.

I got a monitor with the telltale signs of needing a capkit. Bleeding and difficulty adjusting the picture with a warping around the top area.

Pretty sure that sounds like a capkit...

I wonder if anyone has cap kits for it already...

You might try contacting Rick Nieman. He doesn't seem to be responding to my email though. :)
