I have my 60 in 1 going now. It has a leaf switch joystick. It kinda sucks for or can be difficult in games like DK or any of the Pacs. Just wondering if a micro switch would be better? Which do you prefer?

Pacman originally used a leaf switch joystick, so it should work fine for that. Since you are having problems with 4 way games, I would guess that you are using an 8 way joystick. Those games are always harder to play with 8 way sticks. There are a few switchable joysticks out there, but I haven't found one I like yet. You would need to try them to see if you like them.

I really like the wico leaf joysticks. I use both 4 and 8 way versions of them, and they are pretty good for most games. I like fighters better with Happ Comps though.

joystick

mikes arcade shop. i bought a donkey kong repro control panel and the joystick it came with is awusome! it plays pacman, dk, 1942,dig dug ect. all perferct. since then i put it on all the 60 n 1ns i build. matt

Use a 4 way if your going with a non-switchable type.
BUT, that depends on what your focus is, Pacman, DK and others "freeze" with a diagonal signal.

I personally LOVE the ulimarc magstick plus with a ball top stick.
4/8 way switchable one, above the panel at that (pull up and twist to change).
I like that when this joystick is in 4 way mode, it has a diamond restrictor plate.
So it feels just like the dedicated 4-ways used in the original machines.
That said, as they ship they have some stiff microswitches...
Trade those out for some standard cherry micros and it feels much better!

One other thing, the magstick isn't for you if you like a lot of movement.
It is slight of throw, works great if your fitting a Galaga panel as you can use the slotted hole without messing it up!!

Which do you prefer?

A couldn't decide so I went with both. I have both a leaf switch and micro switch joystick and both can be setup for 4 or 8 way by adjusting plates or grommets (not while playing, though). I currently have the leaf set up for 4 way and the micro switch for 8. The joysticks as well as the buttons are wired in parallel so you can use any combination of stick and buttons at any time depending on the game you want to play.

Pics of my panel are below. I made it easy to swap out as I was going to make another panel that had a trackball and rotary nob on it with the same connector and toggle clamp brackets. I never got around to making that second swap out panel.

A bit different, I know, but maybe some food for thought. It's tough to get it all on one panel without a dinner table-sized control panel but that's what I came up with on a relatively small, tight control panel budget.

what joystick is that? have a link to it?

I have a couple of the mag stick switchables, it's about as good as you get to play all of the games. If I didnt' have a switchable I would just go 4 way. The pacs are unplayable with an 8 way. Plenty of games are unplayable with a 4 way though as well.

Well, the most played games are all the Pacs, and DK, but also the 1942 and 1943 with the occasional gunsmoke and mappy. So with a combination of these games, I guess the switcher would be my best option.
