I have a midway Cocktail that currently has a horz. monitor orientation in it, and am trying to decide which would bring the most $$ when finished and resold. For a 19 in 1 I will need to install 5 buttons (where will I put them all!), If I install a 60 in 1, I will have to do wood work to re orient monitor, and install just 1 or 2 buttons. I have done several 60 in 1s before, but never a 19 in 1.
I am building a pole barn to help house my games, and could us the $$ to help finance, so which one would be worth more?
Thanks for your thoughts

but never a 19 in 1

some of the 19 in 1's dont have a button for the hyperspace button i think, keyed into the PCB edge connector. the chinese knock offs
that means you can't properly play DEFENDER AND STARGATE

if you already have a 19 in 1, verify this as some customers might get bent out of shape if they cant play those games after they gave you money

I think that in our Michigan market the 19-1 is WORTH more, but I think that you would be better off doing the 60-1 as they seem to sell better and it would fit the cocktail better.

They are both utterly worthless. All multi's are.

Restore it back to whatever Midway title it's supposed to be (Pac, MsPac, etc.), shine it up real purty, sell it for a ton ($500-1000), and not be a sellout ;)

1000 for a MsPac? I think the vaule on those machine is on a down slide.

The nice thing about the 60 n 1 is that it's a great way of recycling old VGA monitors.

Not everyone has the money or space for 60 dedicated cabinets...
These multiboards do our hobby a service, lets stop pretending that they dont.

And that service would be making sure plenty of CRTs end up in the trash instead of being recapped or reused? Hundreds of classic game boards similarly being disposed of? And of course making sure lots of cabinets get molested for trackballs and extra buttons?

But thank goodness we have a way to get rid of all these super-rare and valuable PC monitors and LCDs that will surely be sought out by collectors for generations to come.

Exactly what are you contributing to this thread?
Your BS holyier than thou attitude has nothing to do with the OP's original post...
Go troll somewhere else

This thread does not belong on this website. We are a preservation society, not a conversion help desk. BYOAC will welcome him with open arms.

Opinion stated in opinion thread

I wouldn't want a thread like this to be censored. But no one should have a problem with people complaining about this thread.

This is a museum site; questions about which conversion of a classic machine will bring more $$ seem a little tacky.

Looks more like a personal project involving a non-classic machine than a commercial value inquiry involving conversion of a classic machine.

For me, it's apples / oranges.

Dont you believe it should be preserved?!?!? After all this is a preservation society, not a conversion help desk right?

It's a preservation society for specific games and machines. Midway cocktails qualify; that countertop machine isn't valued nearly as highly, and does not qualify IMHO.

There's elitism in the value of things in a preservation society - that's how it works. *shrug*

Let's set the record strait here. I very rarely gut/convert complete/restorable games. I quite often get games that have been gutted, or are in a state that restoring is not a good option. That is the case for this game. It started life as a Rally X , and some where was left neglected, the power brick was missing, LOTS of mouse wiring damage, the power supply PCB was dead/damaged, and I would guess by the looks of the mother board it does not work either. However the monitor works good(Just installed a cap kit), and the cabinet is good. So here are my options:1) Sell it as is for $100(?) and make a $40 profit 2)Restore it-spend 20 hours labor and $100-$200 for parts and sell it for maybe $300, than loose my ass on profit. 3) Convert to a 60 in 1- spend 10 hours labor and $100-$150 parts and sell it for $500+. Make a roughly $200-$300 profit to put towards my building project to house my restored and to be restored games. Which one makes the most sense?
For all you that say " save all games and restore them" where are you when I practically beg for someone to come and get FREE cabinets and monitors that I spent time/money to pick up . Most of the time they are as I got them. After a few weeks of trying give it away I am wheeling a Zaxxon cab. out to the burn pile today, because I don't have room for it, and nobody wants to come pick it up for free. Trust me people I would much rather bring a game back to life than convert, but some times that's just the best option.

To everyone that replied with opinions regarding the topic posted, Thanks for your thoughts, I think I'm going to convert to 60 in 1. I was going to reuse the CRT monitor, but after reading some of the posts, I may install a LCD and use the CRT for target practice just to spite the purists. ;.)

What makes the most sense is not to buy things you don't want / have room for and then come around here threatening to burn and destroy perfectly good parts. This thread is pure fail.

The 60in1 is a better lineup. The ones that work the best are the Donkey Kongs and all of the different Pac-Men, and the Galagas. There are some that emulate great and some not to much.

I own both and I play Robotron/Joust on my 19in1 the most. The vertical 60in1 gets a lot of play and I jump around between games a lot.

Be sure you like the games before buying. If there is a particular game you really want, feel free to ask.
