Couple game buddies and I are bs'ing last Saturday and it got to a "which is rarer" discussion. We agreed on most, but this one had us split. Which do you feel is rarer, Aztarac or Zektor? We're talking full complete games here, not just the occasional part. And I know there are many games rarer than either of these, just looking for opinions on these particular two.

I thought Zektor, but both friends thought Aztarac. I'm basing my answer on I can only think of a couple of collectors that have a complete Zektor, but I can think of several collectors that have an Aztarac. What do you think? Not looking for which is more fun or which you'd rather have, just which one you think is rarer than the other.

I don´t know either of the games, but due to KLOV, only 3 collectors have an Aztarac, and 10 have a Zektor.
Based on that, i think it´s a good indicator wich is more rarer...

I have no Idea which is but has anyone ever heard about Tim Stryker the guy who wrote Aztarac?

He committed suicide. Funny thing is my brother knew this guy and almost went to work for him. Tim owned galacticomm and wrote a bbs called majorbbs. Me and my brother used to run a system based off this software. My brother used to write online multiplayer text based rpgs for that software. Tim offered him a job.

I guess he was a genius. Had everything, lots of money, wife and kids. He put a shotgun to his head and blew it off. My brother said he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Sad.

Wow, never knew the backstory.

I will say, Aztarac is an awful game and THAT is why it's rare.
Nobody wanted to play the damn thing!

Not totally. If you look at the entries, all 3 for Aztarac are "original/dedicated". On Zektor, of the 10 claimed, 6 are "board only", 3 are "original/dedicated" and 1 is "conversion". This is likely due to Zektor boards being able to be created from other Sega vector boards. I suspect if there was a relatively simple way to convert some other board to Aztarac, we'd see a lot more Aztarac entries with "boad only".

I'd say aztarac by a mile.. not even close.

Even easier.. there's only 2 known cube quests right? parts are insanely rare.. I know of at least 4 aztaracs, probably more.

The "are known" bit of KLOV stats can be pretty misleading as far as word choices go. It's based on machines logged as owned by people who are members, it's not really a hard number. Could be (though highly unlikely in this case) that someone's got 20 Aztarac's in a warehouse somewhere, or there's a bunch of folks with them who haven't registered them here and there's only 12 Zektor's total. I did the "holy shit I have the only one still dedicated" dance when I got my bloodstorm and looked at the KLOV page, but since then I've seen at least 3 others. Granted, it's quite likely that a lot more people are interested in Aztarac and Zektor than Bloodstorm, as the latter is a mostly forgotten part of arcade history so more of the ones out there are registered, but overall it's not necessarily something to go by in a concrete way.

*e* I've never heard of either game, so I flipped a coin and it came up heads, which means I think there's more Zektor's out there. :)
