which game is best? donkey kong or donkey kong jr.?

I've got both of these and I give a slight edge to DK too. I'm okay at both of them. I'm pushing 300k on DK and my high score on Jr. right now is just below 100k, although I haven't played Jr. nearly as much as DK and I refuse to watch youtube videos to teach me how to play.
Anyway, DK's barrel board is hard for Jr. to contend with. When you're pulling out 3 barrel jumps and backwards jumps, and wall bounce dodges it just gets so damn exciting. Jr. doesn't give you quite that much excitement. DK Jr.'s vine board can't touch DK's barrel board. The other thing I'll say is that, while both games require patience, I feel like the patience in DK is to keep you alive. With Jr., you need patience to rack up points. You tend to do a lot of hanging on vines waiting for snapjaws to do the right thing so you can get mulitipliers. Its not very challenging and can feel tedious. With DK, on the other hand, the waiting you tend to do is running around trying to outmanuver fireballs or barrels. It gets a lot more intense.
It's a really close call though. The key levels and and the later springboard levels of Jr. are really challenging.

I prefer Jr. Not just because I have one, but because I find it more entertaining. I suck at them both but I actually enjoy sucking on Jr.

I like playing DK Jr because it is easier, but DK is better over all.
The real question is which is better D2K or DK Jr.
I also noticed that no one said anything about DK3. BLEH!

This is a hard call for me as in a week I will be buying one or the other. If I get a DK I can add the DKII chip. I like them both....BUT I play DKJ better.

I like both,but DK gets my vote.It has more video game history,notoriety,and the gameplay isn't slow and the controls aren't clunky like DK Jr.

I have both and prefer DK. It's what got me into buying games. D2K is cool and while I'd like a dedicated, having it in my DK is fine by me. - Barry

Neither is "better". They are both good, but the gameplay is completely different between the two. In one you are a man and are constrained to the abilities of a man, and in the other you are a monkey and are constrained to the abilities of a monkey.

Since I got chased off by a gang becuase I was playing "their" DK machine and never had that problem playing DKJr I have fonder memories of DKJr. Plus I always found it a lot easier - so games last longer and I spent less $$ - than DK. DKJr for me.
