which game is best? donkey kong or donkey kong jr.?

Another vote for DK. Apples and Oranges, but I like Apples better.

... wonder why we never saw Mrs. Kong?? :p

Jumpman never did rescue the princess... ;) And you know how gorillas get.

I prefer DK but JR is equally good IMO. I just played DK more BITD (though I was never good at it, don't remember ever even making it past the first level).

DK by a mile. My main issue with DK Jr. isn't the levels, its that I don't like the way it controls, feels clunky and imprecise to me.

For me its close , but I think DK is slightly a better game . Jr has a better cab , with the orange and art .

While I have recently taken a liking and addiction to JR., DK smokes it fives way to Friday! They are both great games for sure, true classics.

And really, what other classic has a follow up game that had as much success? (I can't think of any off the top of my head).

I'm glad I own both! :)

Short answer: DK.

DK is the one I played the most and kicked the kickplate at the local skating rink the most! Feel shitty about that now, knowing that I own and restore games!

Better feeling of accomplishment on DK, as I could move onto more levels, than DKJR, BITD. I do agree with the DKJR theme, tho. I was really drawn to the orange look and the marquee and bezel! I agree with the movement issue. Lost too many Jr's trying to jump on the springboard, at first! Classic.

Both are great games as far as I'm concerned, but I'd give the slight
edge to DK.

It's too bad that Junior doesn't have something similar to DK's "wild barrells" or the fireballs that chase you through the level and force you to finish more quickly. Either that, or make the timers on the Vines, and especially the Hideout faster. Milking the Hideout for points is tedious to say the least. I will say that I think that the Springboard and the Chains levels are fun and challenging and wouldn't change a thing. I wonder why they changed the point value for jumping 3 items from 500 on DK to 400 on Junior? Jumping 3 snapjaws is damn near impossible! :)

I say its that Coleco DK table top game that runs on c batteries. I played the hell out of that game and have barely ever touched a DK(although I am building one presently.) As for DK, I purchased a cocktail years upon years ago for like 35 bucks at auction. I've had it ever since. Its cool even though I really don't love it that much. Hopefully, I will be better at DK, since Jr is supposed to be harder. Either way, its nice to have the family. And if I ever get another DK board to convert to D2K, I will convert the Jr. CT to that.

DK

While I am better at DKJr, I have to say Donkey Kong. The reason for this is because gameplay in DKJr is not as intense as DK.

I think it is because it was the first game Nintendo made themselves rather than outsource to Ikegami Tsushinki.

Pretty much all of Ikegami Tsushinki's games are really quite good. Zaxxon being another great that is equally hard. And let's not forget Popeye!
