I really don't recall many Exidy shooters from the arcade days in the Chicago area. Crossbow and Cheyenne, that's about it and I don't recall playing them much. I played Chiller at a buddy's house a few years ago and liked it then, so I was happy to get an Exidy multi a few months ago. I also picked up a Chiller project.

Last week, Troy had a game party with a superbly restored Exidy game with the multi installed. I tried several (but not all) of the games. Nothing really got my interest. Even Chiller didn't keep my interest the way it did a couple years before. I'm really thinking of offering my Chiller project and multi for sale.

But maybe I just didn't try the right games. What Exidy 440 shooter games do you guys like the best? Which do you like the least?

KLOV lists these in the same conversion class:

Catch 22
Crossbow
Cheyenne
Combat
Chiller
Clay Pigeon
Hit N Miss
Showdown
Who Dunit

The Exidy-multi also has Crackshot (maybe KLOV has a error to omit that one?), and it doesn't have Showdown.

Cheyenne and Crossbow were my two favorites and the only ones I seen in arcades when I was a kid ,I didn't really see the other titles where I played but since getting my exidy multi kit it's great to play the games I never seen especially Chiller but I still come back to playing Cheyenne which is my favorite.

Cheyenne to me is by far the best. I remember crossbow from BITD but something about it just makes the game play not flow and it seems a bit akward. Chiller is a really cool theme but I see the game as only ok with the potential to get boring relatively easily. IIRC hit n miss is basically a shooting gallery game. I recall it being ok but could probably be better if it started slower and built the difficulty rather than starting out for the more skilled player as I believe it does. To me all the games that use the button along with the gun are just akward and hard to play. The is heavy enough that playing one handed and being accurate is not easy so when you have to use the button your accuracy goes out the window.

Chiller would be my pick. A horror theme and it was the only one I ever recall playing and that was just once at the auction. But it was cool and gory. And I somewhat collect horror games. Plus any game that has the reputation for being the goriest, most disturbing game ever can't be all that bad. ;)

Cheyenne gets my vote. By the way, is there an ending to that game?

Crackshot. I love simple target shooting without and 'end' or goal. Just racking up points. I have yet to try Hit N Miss, but I think I'd like that one too.

Crossbow. The theme and art on it is best IMO. Game is ok when the bow is calibrated worth a damn.

But I've never played any others in the wild. And I don't really care for Exidy shooters.

440 shooter

I dont see what the big deal about crossbow is. I have a friend that says if a game is rare there is usually a reason it sucks! It is a 1 trick pony people walk left to right across the screen. I know you can buy the multi kit but all that will do is change the background and the caracters hats , basically the same lame "rare" game. Matt

Crossbow is my favorite. I remember it being a pretty unforgiving, yet fascinating game in the arcades when it came out. The graphics and sound were pretty impressive for the day. I'm happy to have one in my basement lineup!
