Which do you like better? SEGA Genesis or SNES and why?

It does come down to personal preference. I prefer the SNES, we're not going to change each other's opinion. ;)

Hey, if we convince one person here to try out one of these fine systems, then this thread was worth it. And it looks like we did!

The Genesis has better audio, really? Go watch AVGN's 32X review and listen to the differences in Doom, living proof that the SNES once again conquers.

Must not comment!

I agree w/ Hunterzero "different strokes for different folks....."

I'd say the Sega Genesis clearly sounds better then the muffled sounds of the SNES in this example. Each system has it share of good sounding games. In the long run the SNES has a overall better track record of good sounding games though.

The Genesis has subjectively more pleasing synth sounds, but has 'computery' white noise sounding drums and thin bass. The SNES has less treble in the synth, better drum samples and thicker bass, which is probably why it sounds 'muffled'.

More comparisons...

Honestly I don't really think I could make a call on this one. Both systems had TONS of exclusive titles that were great. And arguing about which had the better ports seems completely pointless since most games that were ported to both systems sucked on both systems.

But then again I can say the same thing about PSX vs. Saturn since I used to play all the RAM cart and Jap exclusive games for Saturn.

I think it's probably an irrelevant debate these days. When we were young and relied on parents, we had to pick one and run with it (and usually ended up feeling loyal to whichever one we had). But now for most people there's no reason not to enjoy both consoles. I had a Megadrive and was mostly a Sega fan, but I did secretly love playing F-Zero at friends.
