Which chassis is best? Wei-ya 2628HR or 429H?

Hey!

My current chassis is not in the best condition so I've got hold of a couple of potential replacements. Both should work but no idea which to prefer!

One is a Wei-ya 2628HR. It is used and I'll recap it before using.
The other is a new 429H made in 2016. It was sold as new and looks new, apart from the neckboard which has some bubbling going on and some suspicious stains...

My tube is a panasonic 26'' (sorry, can't figure out anythign more exact) and is currently running with a 2628HR chassis (one that's seen better days, hence replacing).

Is one obviously better than the other?

Both are good chassis,
well the early 429H chassis were, as it seams in the past few years they have dropped the "auto Degauss" from them,
but if your board has, then it be an early version..
please remember the "universal" is not .. it only means you can modify to suit your needs,
i did a Long thread years ago about what you need to do, to run these 429H chassis & the components that need be changed to have them run correctly..

Thanks! Yup - I've read your thread end to end :) Very useful, thank you!

One thing I'm trying to figure out - does the 2628HR need an isolation transformer... The arcade I got came with a 2628HR already and it doesn't seem like it has a transformer, the chassis is wired directly to the mains (220v here in Europe). Can you tell from the photo if one's needed?

I saw in your post that the 429H definitely needs one...

yes i see a transformer on the 2628 chassis ,
this model uses "switching regulator" technology hence transformer, they will run from 100v to 240v input.

personally i would of had an isolation transformer on this chassis ,
in the arcade i work in we always use isolation transformers, & it has been done that way since the 80's

'Good' is a bit of a strong word to use for these Chinese universal chassis. They'll work in a pinch if a better option isn't available but I would go as far as to call them good.

Thanks guys. I'll start with a direct swapout of my existing 2628HR with the new one (recapped) and take it from there. Also ordered a 300W isolation transformer to be on the safe side...

as with any of these chassis, you nee customize to suit Your tube,
be sure that your ohm's of the yoke suit the chassis

Of course! Thanks!
if you can read a schematic, look at my details on the 429H chassis,
the mod's are there, what to change.
most of these chassis are based on the same..
eg a lot of the 429 is as old as the WG 19V1000 B&B of space invaders,
yep the voltage regulator +B is the same, they just changed the values or model of component..
even chassis like WG4600 , G05 , Orion all use the same type of +B regulator, only tweeked to suit the needs of the system
