Where to find Nintendo's history...way back to now?

When I search online I find a lot of information about Nintendo starting out making playing cards.

Then, there's some other crap.

Then, they jump into the gaming market.

Then, it seems that most of the arcade history that should be there isn't found by me. All I seem to find is console stuff.

Even on Nintendo.com there history starts way back in 1985 with the Nintendo Entertainment System.

What about all the arcade stuff?

Is the Nintendo of today nothing more than console stuff and the arcade Nintendo not really the same company?

Anybody have the answers?

By the way, just in case you're interested, I need this information so that I (along with a couple other guys) can do a big presentation in our business class. We had to choose a well known company, on the stock exchange, that has some sort of impact on people's lives around our area and give detailed information of all aspects of this company - - we chose Nintendo.

Thanks.

I read this book quite a few years ago, and I remember it being pretty thorough... might want to check and see if your local library has it.

I read that book too, it's got a ton of insider info. Lot's of Japanese names being thrown around, hard to keep track of who's who sometimes.

I'm shocked no one pointed mudmantim in my direction...being the guy that works for the company. :D

In any case, there ARE plenty of reads out there. But if you want a little of my insight, I'd be happy chat a little about it.

So why do some red DK (or Radarscope) cabinets have 5 slot speaker grills, but the majority have 7 slots ?

Your guess is as good as mine on that one. I suppose over lunch, if I get lucky, I could bump into our company EVP and ask him about it. He's one of the few (if perhaps, the ONLY one) who was around those times.

Could you.... seriously ?
I've asked this a few times and have my own theory, but that's all it is, a theory.

I think they used leftover front panels from the previous design cabinets when they first started the "new", more well known design cabinets. (or something along those lines)

Yeah I've been meaning to seriosuly ask Don more about the old days. The last time we talked, it was mostly small talk about him just starting college, needing the money and sleeping under the shipping trolleys by the loading docks as he worked 20 hrs a day on some nights.

He was part of the DK conversion team and came up through the company old school...just dedicated hard work and commitment to the company. He's a nice guy, just hard to get a hold of as he's one of the company big-wigs now. Perhaps at a company function or sometime, I'll bug him about it. No guarantees though. But I've been at the company long enough that he's got to be familiar with all the media events I've done and been thrown in front of cameras...lol.

My uncle actually worked for Nintendo during the glory days. I haven't talked to him since I was a kid. His name is Jim Armintrout - he was the tech during the competition on "That's Incredible". He left Nintendo just after that time to work in TV, I believe in the bay area as a produce of some sort. If I could only get a hold of him. - Barry

Working on gettting a hold of him - It looks like he's involved with FSN.

I'd be interested in finding out why DK changed over from red to blue cabinets. I don't think it was a matter of simply using up radar scope cabinets. My theory is that DK was always intended to be in a red cab but supply outstripped demand so bad that they started using the blue cabinets, originally intended for Popeye, on DK to keep up with the unexpected demand. Then they realized it would be easier to use light blue for both. Prove me wrong djgil, . . . prove me wrong . . .

I bet you probably feel a little like Shatner at a Star Trek convention right now.

Thanks for the recommendations everybody, I'll get cracking on finding those books.

djgil I'll keep you in mind when we need questions answered, thanks!!
