where to buy sanyo monitors for a punch out?

good luck. if you can't find any locally through CL, other collectors or operators you may want to try eBay or ask here. but shipping something like that isn't going to be cheap and the Sanyo's are somewhat prized by Nintendo purists.

really, you don't have to have the 20Z2AW's... you can use a video inverter card (with audio amp) that for about $25 will let you use any 19" that'll bolt in.

Mike's Arcade sells 'em.

Do these work well? Just curious because we have 7 working Nintendo monitors but I can see the day where one of them truly "gives up the ghost". I thought about ordering one just to have on hand in case we do run into a situation like that. Just wanted to hear about people's experience with them.

Those cards will work with just about any 19" monitor you want to put in a Nintendo cabinet. However, you must remember the power requirements for the monitor itself and what's available for power in the cabinet. You have two options:

Monitor that can operate on isolated 100 volts AC. Can plug right in to existing cabinet monitor outlet. Monitors that do not need isolation transformers can operate on as low as 90 volts.

Monitor that operates on 120 volts AC. If it's one that needs isolation then you need to buy and install a new isolation transformer for it.

i've heard that the version of the card from Mike's Arcade is solid and works great.

and yeah, if you were going to replace the Sanyo's with a monitor that takes 120v you'd have to get power from the block before it's dropped to 100v (wire in a new A/C) and install an isolation transformer if the new monitor(s) call for it. i did it in my R-Type with a used iso out of a Pac and it worked fine and didn't take long.

I'm less worried about the inverted video, and more worried about mounting a regular monitor inside a Nintendo cab. Who's done it, with pictures and a how-to?

I put a Wells 4600 in one several years ago in a vs Unisystem (formerly a Donkey Kong) cabinet I converted into a Shinobi.

my K7000 universal mounted just fine in my R-Type which originally came with one of the Sharp XM-1801N monitors.

and i just pulled a 20-Z2AW out of my (converted) Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters... it was a straight bolt-in with no issues. the Z2AW is nearly identical to the 20-EZ and has exactly the same mounting points.

I got a new monitor for my DKJR a couple of years ago. ( I think it was a vision pro ) I had to swap everything into the old monitor frame because the new one stuck out the back of the game.
