Where to buy buttons

I am looking to buy some buttons to add to my arcade games for people to add credits. I am going to mount them on the cab and that way people can just push them in sted of me leaving the coin door open.
 
What games are you adding them to?

There is a nice little trick where you can wire up the Player-2 button to add a credit. Press P2, then P1 to start a one player game, or press P2 twice for a two player game.

Also, make sure the game has a free play mode.

Bob Roberts has buttons, and Mike's Arcade, Arcadeshop, etc probably have them too.
 
You are going to end up drilling holes in all of your games. One thing I, as do a lot of folks, dislike more than lock bar holes are holes for credit buttons. I even have what would otherwise be a nice Nintendo VS. control panel with a obliong hole in it from a credit button.

I went the same route at one time except I routed wires through cracks in the cab or out coin return slots. I turned out to be a huge pain to do and everyone had to play "find the button" to credit up. I thought about going to tokens but just decided to start throwing spare quarters in a bowl. To me is was a push cost wise compared to buying tokens and buying or converting coin mechs.

The other options are the P2 trick mentioned above or mounting a micro or leaf switch inside the coin door in such a way that you can push in a reject button, hit the switch, and add a credit. I have not seen it yet but I understand the folks putting on the arcade expo here in town this year are making up a block of wood that sits in the coin mech slot with a switch mounted to it such that the tip of the reject button will trip it.

I would go coin door mounted switch for games I see staying for a while except I have a small-ish change machines that I have hot wired to vend quarters to play. It's become a fun part of my arcade so I sticking with it.
 
I have Road Blaster and Steel Gunner. I was going to mount the buttons on the bottom on where the cab kicks out for the control pannel. I guess I could make up a different coin door out of wood or metal with holes for the buttons, the coin doors need work. This way I could keep the coin doors the way they are and put them back on if I sell them. I did find some on the Paradise arcade web site but thought I might get a betted deal on shipping from someone not on a island.

I personally dislike this idea. I have 4 games that don't do freeplay nicely and for those I just keep quarters on the bezel channel. Works great. During a party it's a bit of a hassle as you have to constantly refill the quarters as they are used, but it's not that bad.
 
Not sure if they have free play, I have looked at the menu on the Steel Gunner and did not see anything for it. How hard is it to hook up thr switch in you link?

There's a PDF of the installation instructions on his site. He's a member here but I can't remember his name...

Hadn't seen this before but I'd give it a try OP.

Past that I agree with others where I don't like the idea of adding extra button holes. Depending on the game I'd be inclined to mess with the coin door if it was standard and easy to replace.

For buttons I like twistedquarter.
 
If your game has a service panel then wire a button to that. There is usually a pre-existing hole for it. Then just open the coindoor and coin up.

Worse comes to worst, wire a credit button but leave it dangling inside the cabinet with easy access to the coindoor.

I'm also not a fan of the extra credit button drilled into the machine. I've yet to see it done in a way that doesn't make me do a "stank beer face" reaction.

I also find that a lot of people that don't have games themselvess actually like to do the quarter thing. It adds something extra to the whole experience.
 
I think I might go this way, no big holes in the cab and easy to take off. But I think I will just go with one button.

If you don't like the extra hole in the cab I'll spare you the pick of a pacman I have seen with one in it.
 
In similar threads in the past, the idea I liked best was putting switches behind the coin reject buttons so when one is pressed, it results in a credit. I plan to do this to my games as I will not drill holes for a credit button and don't want to leave the coin doors unlocked.
