$2650 for an unrestored yet nice firepower? Isnt this like a sub 1k game
all day long? You cant even negotiate someone down to a reasonable number
with that starting point.

There is always going to be the uninformed guy with that one pin he got handed down from his dad or whatnot and lists it for sentimental value.

It's all gravy though. Sometimes I email those people and give them links to realistic prices and also let them know I am not interested in it, just giving them info

I had some asshat offer me a 50-in-1 (with a lcd screen no less..) for my Pinbot tonight. And then had the nerve to tell me that my game us only worth 500.

Lots if epic win today.

I've done that as well before, depending upon how they word the ad, and how long it's been posted.. If they respond (they usually don't), you get some quote about "that's how much they sell for on eBay".... No - that's what they may LIST for on eBay, but no point in arguing at that point of course!

It appears to be a nice enough Firepower, but good grief - not a $2650 game. They made a ton, and I don't think it'd be too hard to find them $500 and under as a decent condition project, or $700 or so shopped and working. Anything higher (in my area at least) I'd consider high. I like my Firepower (the second I've had) too much to sell it, but if somebody offered me $1000 or more, I'd think pretty damned hard about it since they're not hard to find...

I'm new to the trade but I know Pinbot is in the top 10 most wanted.

$2650 is kinda high I agree. But, check this guy out:

Big Bang Bar, 1996 Capcom: $35K
Original 1996 Capcom Big Bang Bar. Not a reproduction. Excellent collector quality condition. Plays great. Error free. Pictures available.

I'll be sure to get right on that. ;)

Against my better judgement I emailed the guy...

Looks like he way overpayed for it (he knows it) and felt he should get
back the 350 he spent on the backglass and 150 in misc parts. He didnt
mention what he paid for it but I'm guessing it was at least 2k.

I told him if he came down to 1k we could strike a deal
but he said there is no way he would take less then 2k for it.

I guess he's looking for a sucker to overpay like he did.

From reading the ad it sounds like he put a lot into doing a restoration/fully shopping it.

I'd be listing it for at least that price down here myself, if not a bit more, after fully shopping/restoring it.

He is marketing to the non-collector that wants a nice pin for their house that has been fully shopped and is in good condition. That is a LOT different than trying to market it to the typical cheap-ass KLOVers!

yea, what he said. I went and looked at a beautiful firepower, playfield almost perfect with no wear, cabinet and backglass both 8+. Guy wanted 1k, plugged it in and it wouldnt boot so he knocked it off to 500. Took me 5 minutes to fix it (after I got it home)

I've never seen a 2K Firepower...ever. The new CPR playfield might up the cleaned up Firepowers to the 1200-1500 range (just because you put in a new 600 dollar playfield to justify it), but I've seen really nice restored original FP's barely break 1 to 1.2K. And that's the high end.

LOL listing it for MORE!?!? Poor Texas. There is "cheap ass KLOV"...and then there is putting greed run amok in check.

It has nothing to do with "greed". I put a lot of time, effort, and expense into restoring machines and I value my time accordingly. I also provide a 6 month warranty on the machines I sell.

The typical buyers on CL or at brick and morter stores are very different than KLOV buyers. Most KLOV'ers aren't going to pay that much because they get into the PROCESS of restoring/shopping machines and aren't afraid to work on them. The people I'm selling to is a completely different demographic that have no interest in working on the machine, they just want a nice machine in top condition that they don't have to worry about.

There is a reason I sell my machines on CL and never list them on KLOV. And ultimately all my machines do sell at or near the listing price.

No offense, but I'm not new to the "retailer speech" with these situations. I understand it and even support it at times in other similar discussions, but honestly, that line also has a B.S. limit. There's a point where trying to justify a completely fucking bonkers price with things like "it's for non-collectors" and "brick n mortar" and "retail" and "my time is valuable" and "KLOVers are cheap" just doesn't hold. Asking almost 3K for a Firepower is really stretching those excuses beyond their factory recommended breaking point.

That's great. You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to ignore it! :)

This is almost always the case with people who are not in the hobby selling at super high prices. Trying to recoup their "investment".

Perhaps this is where the crazy prices we see on the various pawn shop and storage unit TV shows can work to your advantage; take the thing into a pawn shop and see if they'd give him $2k for it - who knows! If they've seen the show, they may think they're getting a bargain...

What I define as a "high/unreasonable" price - for a *used* pinball (new is clearly different) - if you can't turn around and expect to sell it within a month for the same price, you probably paid more than it's market value.

Yes - there are clearly people in that fringe who will pay more - typically because they are outside of the typical market, and because they are ignorant of the true value. If you can sell to those folks, and you're providing them with a quality product, great - I don't think that automatically means your price is "fair" however.

If those same people take what you've sold them and enjoy it with their family, and pass it along to their grandkids for 20 years, then they're getting their value out of it perhaps.

Perhaps this guy gets lucky and sells this to somebody else on a similar fringe - key here is that he realizes he overpaid for it. Now - if he's patient, and ok with waiting a year or two, perhaps he'll find somebody else willing to pay for it at that price; I don't think most folks are that patient...
