So where is Jersey Jack going to be putting together the new wizard of oz pin?City?State?Factory location? I sure do wish him the best of luck i bought my sopranos pin from him years ago and he's a very nice guy that went out of his way to help me get my pin.

Jack has posted at RGP that he has leased space near his current location and it will be assembled in New Jersey.

What kind of electronic hardware system will it use? Will it suffer from burnt general illumination connectors?

Will it use Williams flipper assemblies?

No info on electronics other than an LCD display in the backbox. But it sounds like it is using Williams parts for stuff like the flipper assemblies and other hardware. There were references to securing rights to some Williams parts. However none of this has been confirmed as far as what I've seen.

I can't imagine burned GI being an issue. Even Stern has that under control now days, right?

I think its really exciting to see someone else getting into the mix here. I wish them absolutely all the best.

Question about burnt GI connectors..Whats up with that? I've seen it on some pins...My congo has a pretty burnt up molex and it killed one of the GI connections....?

It is called cost cutting. DE and Williams/Bally have problems with the connectors in the backbox overheating. Williams/Bally used way too small of wire in some stuff, I know my AFM has skimpy GI wiring. DE/Sega's wiring seems to be okay from a size perspective, but they have the annoying stapled GI under the playfield that makes bulb replacement a PITA because you can only get to it from the top. Maybe someone will finally get it right. Fingers crossed.

Has Jack actually confirmed that? I know he didn't explicitly say that on the podcast but I haven't been following RGP. I hope that if it does it's well integrated. So many times when I see monitors in multi-pin stuff they look tacked on and crappy. Done well I think it could be really cool.

It means its time to replace both the male and female terminals at the connector. You must repalce BOTH, or it will happen again.

It happens from the plating wearing off and building too much resistance, thus it cooks the plastic connector.

At any rate, I wish Jack best of luck too and I cannot wait to see WoZ and he next machines!

i don;t believe Jack actually said it - I've read a shit ton on RGP about it. But clearly Jack has talked to a few people about this project and they've been spillin the secret sauce around. I was also told LCD in the back box at which I'' "assume" much like a windows machine, you'll have a dynamic back grounds and video modes will most likely utilize the entire LCD screen. I would guess Jack is taking more of a virtual pin/Pin2K approach (purely speculation there) PC based brains.

Yes, in an email update regarding the selection of the artist for the cabinet and backglass (Jerry Vanderstelt).

Jerry will do backglass art which will be displayed on the LCD in the backbox as well. There will be a mirrored glass the full size of the backbox which will have artwork that will frame the LCD and lift up and into the backbox like a traditional full sized backglass

I think it will be an LCD used in lieu of a DMD. I don't think we are going to see anything like Pin2k or some type of hybrid. Just my speculation though.

In other words "Baby Pacman" all over again. No thanks. I like my pinball machines to be all pinball and no video game.

Not at all. Baby Pac-Man had a joystick. This will be a pinball game w/ an LCD replacing the Backglass art and DMD. I imagine it would play Wiz of Oz movie clips to attract players in the arcade instead of relying on the static backglass image. It may have video modes - but so do DMD games....that wouldn't make it anything like Baby Pac-Man.

He stated in the Podcast that there is not going to be a Pin2K/hybrid effect going on.

That's probably where I got the idea that it wasn't going to be a Pin2k type game or a hybrid. I listened to the podcast but I forgot that. I don't think we have to worry about it being another Baby Pac-Man.

It would be cool if they used the PROC board. I don't see it happening but it is the most direct approach to getting a "from scratch" pinball system up and running. Designing a driver board to mate with it wouldn't be tough at all compared to designing a complete system from scratch. To replicate the effort they've put into designing the hardware and software would be in the thousands of hours I'm sure. It would also have the "open source" aspect that Jack talked about built in. It wouldn't be the model that he suggested though. That being basically a "rules sheet" that you create and upload to a web server, they compile it, test it and send it back to you. That's not open source at all but I understand having to do that from a liability standpoint. However, I'm sure the PROC guys would be happy to lock their board down a little bit to sell 1K+ pieces. I don't know... I don't want to speak for them but I think it would be incredible if new machines were manufactured with that board.

soooooo, is this guy making a single pin? a one of a kind wizard of oz pin? or is he planning to produce a bigger run to sell?

thanks.

He is thinking of a 5000-6000 unit run. The first 1000 will be special editions.

Like metahugh said, he plans on the first 1000 being limited edition. I have my doubts that he'll sell 5k of them but who knows. He also says there will be other pins designed and made by his company, this isn't a one time deal. We'll have to see about that. If he is successful, we'll probably see more.
