Where do you guys go for your clear plexiglass for marquee's? I was just thinking about going to Lowes/HD and having a piece cut didn't know if you guys had a better solution. Thanks!

Menards, I buy a big sheet, then I just cut it on my table saw

If I may ask, what are the dimensions on that big sheet and how much is it at Menards?

To the op: Plexiglass is okay for marquees, and you can cut it yourself fairly easily if you take your time. However, do not use plexi for other things (e.g., control panels) or you will soon regret it. I know lexan is a more expensive product, but it is x400 times better than plexi. Like I said, for marquees, plexi is fine, and I know that was what your question was in regards to, but for everything else, I would use only lexan. Trust me.

Home Depot/Lowes. $13 gets me 2 marquees. Cuts like butter on my router with a flush trim bit. Same thing for control panels.

I buy it in 3' x 3' sheets at the local hardware store. I dont use it very often so it lasts me a long time just for oddball projects. I recently made an atari trackball top plate with it.

I am lucky to have a place called General Rubber and Plastic located in Louisville, KY. They cut everything to the size I request and it is pretty cheap. I can get plexi for the control panel, marquee, and monitor for $25-30. They also offer different colors if you need a tinted glass.

There's a place called Piedmont Plastics in Charlotte, looks like the same kind of operation. Might want to give them a call.

http://menards.com/main/building-materials/sheet-acrylic-glass/clear-acrylic/c-7552.htm

$44 regular price on .22" thick (closest to original 1/4" thick) plexi 2'x4' sheet -- enough for 5 Bally/Midway sized marquees (9" high)

$30 for .118" thick same size
$25 for .100" thick same size

And they have tons of other sizes and thicknesses for less money. A cutter is about $4 to score and break it apart yourself, otherwise a tablesaw works perfectly fine to cut too.

Menards routinely (every 6-10 weeks) puts all acrylic on 15% off sales too. But they're only in the midwest.

To the OP: If other areas, Lowes/HD or Amazon are your other options, but I noticed that Amazon recently raised prices significantly on plexi. A 3'x4' sheet of grey tinted I ordered in August for $38 steadily increased to over $59 the last I looked.

Your local Lowes cuts it for free? Damn.

At Lowes prices they should install it for you too!

But then again, Menards has been trending upwards significantly lately across the board, but still always beats HD/Lowes, just not as much as before; and you have to watch the off-brands as they often are lower quality -- like their velcro 8 hole sanding discs. They switched from Scotch/3M to their in-house brands, and both the basic and deluxe ones barely stay on the sander for more than 5-10 minutes if run at anything other than the slowest speed. Ruined about 15 of them still with nearly all the grit left, but no velcro loops remaining, vs. the 3M they used to carry (at a lower cost too) that I always burned through the disc and never lost velcro, even at the highest speed.

I have never lived in a town with a Menards before so I am going to have to go there and check it out tonight.

Thanks for the plug Dave. I work at Menards in Oshkosh. Maybe we should hook up and game sometime. I will have my Playchoice running by this time next month (with a Powerpak loaded with titles!)

Where are you getting cheap tempered glass at cut to size?
I get mine from a glass shop right near me...and they don't even do the tempered stuff in-house. Marquee-size is usually around 9 bucks, while monitor glass is around $15-20. I assume other glass shops would be similar. The place I go to for plexi/lexan is like three times as expensive as that
